2018 Juiced Bikes RipCurrent S compatibility with Bafang H550

Picked up a 2018 RCS this year. It's the 52V model but hub says it's 48V750W. Previous owner kept pretty good care of it but now just wondering if I should preemptively get a backup rear motor just in case.

I saw here, Thread 'Leads on Juiced parts', there's an Ebay seller with a few Bafang H220 1000w motors. Anyone think there would be any issues swapping motors in the future?

Tough call, jwhy. I bought a spare motor (H550, G062 1000W, 2000peak) that was intended for a Juiced RCS 2022 version. Below a picture of the etching on the motor for the RCS 2022… It doesn’t say 1000W, but it is. I suspect (but do NOT know for sure) that this motor will work with your 2018 bike controller.

There’s an eBay seller selling complete rear wheel assemblies for around $200 which is probably the best way to go. I believe I posted a link to that in the aforementioned thread. Those are meant fo the RCS 2022 version as well and have that motor on them. I don’t know anything about the seller, but that’s what I’d buy if I had this to do all over again. Does your bike have a 9-speed cassette? If not, you can probably take the cassette from your bike and put it on. Again, totally NOT sure if this will work.

I asked Chatgpt and it said the H550 probably won't fit but the G062 should be.

⚙️ Fitment on 2018 Juiced Bikes RipCurrent S

The 2018 RipCurrent S is designed around the Bafang G062 (48V 750W) with 175mm dropout spacing.

Swapping to an H550 would likely not fit without serious frame modifications:

The dropout spacing is wider (190mm+ vs. 175mm).

It’s heavier, which could stress the frame.

You’d also need to confirm compatibility with your existing controller and wiring (phase/hall sensor connectors differ).


Staying with the G062 (or its 1000W variant) is the direct replacement option.

G062 is the stock motor for your RipCurrent S — it will fit directly.

H550 is physically larger, heavier, and likely won’t fit your frame’s dropout width without modification. It’s not a drop-in replacement.

@jwhy , you have to be careful; ChatGPT is giving you nonsense. What a surprise. The H550 is the series of the Bafang motor, and the G062 is the specific version in that series that’s on the bike.

Mine is the 9-speed cassette. I'll check the motor connector later and see if it matches the same style connector as the ebay listing.
 
^^^ That’s a picture of the motor that’s in the 2022 (final version) RCS. It’s the same as the one I have sitting in my window that I showed you a picture of.

The seller on eBay is selling complete rear wheel RCS (2022) assemblies. I think this will work on your 2018 bike, but I cannot say for certain. Good luck.
 
FYI, this is the connector on the 2022 motor. Again, no guarantees. Even if it fits, it’s possible that your 2018 controller may not entirely work with it. I’m guessing it will though.

Also, @jwhy, I can’t get a good close-up, but there are three small pins in a triangle on either side of the the big pins in the big sectors. In the small sector there are two pins on either side of the big pin. The female side (from the controller) has holes for those, and I suspect they carry a variety of signals from the motor to the controller. The big pins are almost certainly for power. If the female side of your bike has all the holes for these pins, I give it good odds that it’ll work. Otherwise, the connectors will not mate and the motor won’t work.
