2017 Cannondale Mavaro Performance 700F

Hi,

I’m new to ebikes and was wondering if I’m getting a good deal.

A local bike shop had a leftover 2017 Cannondale Mavaro Performance step-thru on sale for $3,200. I asked for and received an additional $200 off for the couple of scuffs I found on the paint.

So I put the bike on layaway for $3,000 + tax.

Is this a good deal?

Should I be looking at a different brand?

Or should I be looking at a 2018?

Help, please.

If this is the bike you're getting, then it's a good deal.

Are you getting the bigger capacity battery, lights, fenders, rack etc included ... if so, then go for it. Your local shop will help you with maintenance down the road. You could also check out some Giant and Trek models. pretty sweet bikes.

I would also suggest you to visit your nearest Haibike dealer because many of the 2017 models are on sale.

If you could get a bike with 500+ whr battery then it will be good.

Well my receipt says:

CDALE 700 F
Mavaro Performance
USA NBL STEP THRU47

It has the lights, fenders, and rack included.

I'm not certain about the battery. They said on eco mode it would last for 75 miles.

All ebikes are a great deal! (except the cheap Chinese junk).
They can bring great joy and health.

Now you have the bike, I would would focus enjoying that bike to its fullest. The one you have is a very good bike. It's pointless to debate if you could have saved another $500. The bike will pay for itself many fold when used regularly.

See if you need any additional accessory like mirror, panniers, etc. Enjoy your ride.

Well, I don't have the bike yet -- it's on layaway. So I've got time to change my mind before I pay it off.

I just want to make certain I buying something of good value, that will last a long time. Honestly, I cannot imagine spending this much money on a bike again for at least 10+ years.

Ah.. Sorry I missed that. I was typing from my phone.
Make sure your bike comes with a 500Whr battery.
More importantly, make sure the bike tech knows the bike really well and ask them if the purchase price includes 6 month tune up and any other service.

Since this is a big purchase for you, have you spent lots of time comparing bikes? Will you be using this a lot for commuting or is this more of a recreational bike? If the latter, I think you can get something for a lot less money that will provide just as much enjoyment/utility, especially from the online retailers.

Honestly, from your question, I suspect you haven't put that much time in researching and are worried about buyer's remorse. Don't let "sale" fool you - local bike shops often have 30-40-50% markups. Some argue that's good value as they will service/assemble/warranty your bike - from my experience, it's rarely value-for-money.

I suggest you look at similar alternatives and make a list of what you need/want and compare prices. $3200 can buy a very nice ebike and there are lots of choices. If you haven't already, watch some of Court's Youtube vids to get better understanding of what else is out there and what to look for. This site also has a compare tool that will help narrow down your choices.

And it's key to know how big the battery (measured in amp hours) is to judge if you're getting good value. Much of the cost of an ebike is in the battery. 48 volt batteries are also better than 36 volt

Well, I want to commute to work, use it for fun rides -- I currently usually bike approximately 15 miles on my cheapo Chinese ebike per ride, multiple times a week, and use it to run errands.

Eventually I want to get a towable pet carrier/wagon, so I can take my two pups on rides too.

So I want a good bike. I watched a lot of the EBR reviews before putting the Mavaro on layaway. But I guess I just wanted some confirmation that it's a good price.

Ah, well you know what you want! Ravi knows his stuff, so if he approves, you've got a good deal. Enjoy.

Ravi is spot on considering the bike's price point is at approx $4400.00...

Well, I ended up test riding some other bikes and preferred the Cannondale Mavaro.

I have back issues and the Cannondale Mavaro had the best posture for me. It was so comfortable riding that bike.

So in the end, I paid $3,187.50 for the Cannondale Mavaro. I figured it would take me about 3-4 months to pay off the layaway, but my boss is a really nice guy and let me borrow the money. Now I can pay it back out of my paycheck.

Nice boss and very nice ride indeed. Congrats and enjoy! Hope you purchased with a large battery to ensure you have no range anxiety. Even if you have a smaller one, you should be fine IMO. Ride safe!

It came with a 400 watt battery. I've seen that there are 500 watt batteries for sale
So, some day, I hope to get one of those as a backup battery.

Hi Tina Marie,

How are you liking your Mavaro? I just bought the same bike in a 2016 model and will take delivery tomorrow. I'm pretty excited -- this is my first e-bike. :)

Kind regards.

Congratulations on your new bike purchase! You're going to love it!

I just started riding it to work yesterday. And after work I take the long, long, long way home. It is an absolute joy to ride.

This is my first high quality bike. Every bike I've owed prior to this has been from Walmart. So, for me, the difference is like night and day.

I haven't had any issues and I have no complaints.

I'm so happy to hear about your experience. I had sought pre-purchase feedback elsewhere on the forum but with somewhat disappointing results. Thus, I'm glad I found you here.

I was fortunate to find the bike at a local and very reputable shop. They have been a dream to work with -- gave me an awesome deal, included the warranty from the date of purchase (even though it's a 2016 model), and will even allow me to transfer the warranty to a new purchaser (only within their locations in my area) if I decide I don't love the bike.

I also asked them to run diagnostics on the Bosch system, which checked out perfectly. In the process, a number of updates were installed. The Bosch--trained expert also asked me how I'd like to configure some of options (e.g., walk mode, lights, etc.) and he even scheduled a reminder that will pop up on the display when I've reach 90 days from the date of purchase or 500-miles, whichever comes first, so I can return for a free tune-up.

I'm hoping for good weather this weekend so I can bungie my gym bag to the rack, go for a swim, run errands, stop for coffee (try out the cafe lock) and enjoy lots of fresh air.

Pleasant riding adventures!

Sounds like a winner on your purchase. That is a great way to start planning your adventures on a new ebike. I also like that you can have 'walk mode' activated. Some bikes are not able to activate due to some regulations put in place. Thanks for sharing. Looks like a really nice bike that will give you years of great service. Ride safe and have fun.

The bike shop I purchased my bike from didn't do a diagnostics that I know of, nor check for software updates. I did ask if the system was set to give me reminders for service and the gentleman said he thought so.

The shop where I purchased my bike only had my step-thru and the men's version left. It seems they were concentrating on selling Faraday ebikes and another brand.

So I'm not certain they know much about the Mavaro Bosch system. I would like to get whatever software updates are available. I wonder if I can do that myself.

Thus far I have put 66.5 miles on my bike. This past week I started using it to commute to work -- I work 1.3 miles from home -- and I take a longer ride on my way home.

I'm loving my Mavaro. I wish I could ride all day, but after 2 hours, my derriere hurts bad. The guy at the LBS said I need to build up my seat bones. He assured me that in a couple weeks, after regular riding, the pain should subside.

How are you enjoying your Mavaro?

FYI- The software updates for the Bosch system is proprietary and can usually be applied only by certified Bosch mechanics/dealers. I have not ever seen anyone being able to do that on their own. The updates can release a new version of software that enables the rider to utilize more available features after the update is done.

I am now seeing new designs of bike seats for both men and women that can help reduce and alleviate pains associated with riding. Serfas makes a pretty good bike seat for added comfort and stability.
