In general, I think it is very reasonable to expect that the cost of electric cars will likely drop precipitously in coming years.
Electric cars have fewer moving parts and their designs are more amenable to being made with fewer labor hours. Also a lot of their very expensive components (e.g. batteries) are also amenable to economies of scale and prices of batteries should rapidly drop over time.
On a related note, while electric cars today are substantially more expensive than ICE vehicles, their maintenance costs and "fuel" costs are tiny by comparison so you'd reasonably expect their per-mile operating costs to be comparable to an ICE car.
