1st gen diamant zouma Qs

hi, i rode peddle bikes exclusively (no car) for a couple of years but my situation changed and I'm now bouncing around town in a lousy old Toyota. i need a compromise. the other day i saw a first gen (i think) diamant zouma at the goodwill for a hundred bucks. my research got as far as seeing good reviews and a high retail price but the phone ran out of battery. the readout showed it was holding a charge and a guy was climbing my back wanting the bike so i bought it. it was half charged. i pumped up the storage-flattened tires and did full power start and stops for about ten minutes until it emptied.
1: is this sounding like the battery needs replacing
2: what's the cheapest way to replace it
3:can i remove the battery for charging or does it always stay with the bike? i have the key to a cylinder lock in the side of the pack that pops out an inch or so when unlocked.

I'm not seeing any owner's manuals online. any info on this beast is appreciated

I can't find anything about it. Any idea what kind of battery it has? What year is it? The serial number often has the model year in it. Probably under the bottom bracket.

Hello @fluxpants

Trek and Diamant are related.

Here is Trek Super Commuter.

Here is Diamant Zouma.

Both Trek and Diamant used BionX motor systems until 2013 or so.

The best way to replace that battery is have someone rebuild it and update the software through a BionX dealer.
Trek's version of Diamant was called Valencia. Someone I know rebuilt the battery. Check this out.

I am happy to put you in touch with him.

Totally agree with Ravi on this; Trek actually had a couple of models that used the BionX motor systems. By this point the battery will need to be rebuilt; however, re-programming it may be an issue. None of us are sure exactly when the BionX main computers will be shut down which could impact the programming of the system.

I spoke with one electronics person who advertises online and they have rebuilt a number of BionX systems with that proprietary BMS & internal controller. He understands this is not your usual battery rebuild which leads me to feel more confident about referring him.

You may also want to speak with the Trek folks if you want a whole replacement unit, since this version of the BionX battery is not the same width or length as the standard rear rack 24V BionX battery. That Diamont looks to have the same specs as the Trek. I worked with one customer on a similar issue and Trek has a specific part for that. Whether it is in stock; don't know- you will need to call them.

WoW, thanks everybody for the great info. i went to storage and got brutal on it. the battery unit was just stuck. probably not pulled since the factory. it's nice to get some specifics.
putting a full charge on her to see what happens. that "special case" rebuild sounds scary but maybe worth looking into after i see about the full charge. much appreciated
