The main safety issues I’ve heard about for people transitioning to electric bikes are for those who have had a long break from cycling. If you are a regular cyclist I don’t think you have much to adjust to.
There can be some differences with mounting or dismounting depending on where the battery is located. So it can be good to start by mounting and dismounting when the bike is not in motion. I have heard that many accidents happen when people are mounting or dismounting their bikes.
The only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is the throttle – if your bike has one, it can be easy to grab by mistake. Our bikes have a twist throttle which is right above a short grip. Most of us (we are an evoking family) have grabbed the throttle by mistake at one time or another, making the bike buck like a horse! Fortunately, it’s a mistake that one experiences exactly once and then learns from that experience! Our bikes have a setting called pedal assist zero during which the battery is on but does not operate the pedal assist system or the throttle. That is great for mounting and dismounting if one’s hand has a tendency to rest on the throttle.
Have fun with your E bikes! I hope they work great for you guys!
