Does anyone know if a 12 pack of soda will rip panniers if you put them in?

I have a topeak rear bag with panniers thar fold out. Now that season is on I want to use my bike for more groceries. But I'm worried about my son's sodas ripping the panniers and they box is to long to fit in the top part.

Anybody try this and if so how did it work?

A quality bag like Topeak should not rip. Bungie cord it to the rack and you won't have to worry about it.

I carried 4 2 liter bottles & 2 1/2 gallons of milk substitute home last week. Plus $120 of other groceries. Panniers from yuba, 4 years old. Out at my summer property I carry 7 gallons of water sometimes in gallon punch or weedkiller jugs. Gallon water bottles are too wide. Yuba footrests hold the bottoms up.
Lot easier to carry weight low as opposed to on top of the rack. Spare tire for the pickup is a ***** to get started.

My concern with the panniers was the sharp corners of the sodas ripping them. I can likely put them in the top part and strap them down if necessary though.

In that case (pun intended) you are overthinking this. The cardboard can be molded by hand to fit what you have pannier wise. Unless the cans are suddenly square. Mold the cardboard to be compliant (it's basically paper) and if needed, use a pillowcase to soften the edges.

Weedkiller jug for potable water? Sounds tasty.
