New Allant 9.9s Display and Controller

Some pics of comparisons would be great - smartphone hub *installed* on bike vs nyon *installed* on the same bike. I'm digging for deets. I dislike the smartphone hub.

New Allant 9.9s Display and Controller

Are there any threads on DIY replacement of our smartphone hubs on our Allants? I'd like to replace mine but want to be sure I purchase the right parts, and what the differences are between Nyon and Kiox (I'm assuming one of those is what you went with).

How water resistant are the Trek Allant family of ebikes?

I've ridden my 9.9s in a downpour. 12 mile ride all in a substantial rain storm from my place of work to home.

ALLANT 7S vs. 8S... decisions, decisions....

I have a bit over 2,000 miles on my 9.9s - I believe the motor sound has decreased some... not sure if it's all in my head but that's how i feel. Especially in eco mode - I honestly don't hear it anymore in that mode - not sure if modes matter though - but I use eco mode almost exclusively...

    Bosch range boost - questions

I'm curious about Bosch's range boost for those that have them. I've been dreaming up some long distance rides (100+ miles) and I'm wondering what the charging process is like for the whole 80% charge thing. When you have both the powertube battery in the frame and the range boost attached...

First ebike century with my Allant 9.9s

Hey Luv2ride - i pinged you on Strava but thought i'd ask here as well... what size tubes are you running with your tannus armor? The tire size that I'm running is 27.5 x 2.35. It suggests 27.5 x 1.5-1.95 but I'm not even sure if that's such a thing... :-/ I'm seeing a lot of 1.8-2.5 or so...

    Charging cycles - battery life

Ha - i think i have a good answer found from wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charge_cycle My 60->80% was just an example - I usually run it down more than 60% :-) But rarely less than 30% or so. I charge to 100% maybe once per month.

    Charging cycles - battery life

This shows my ignorance I'm sure - but I'm curious and always have been (I used to own a Nissan Leaf). When a company says a battery lasts so many charging cycles, say 1000, what does that mean. Is 1 charging cycle "used up" when I charge from 60 -> 80%? Sorry if that's a stupid question.

What’s the fastest you’ve been on your Trek ebike?

valid point - there are certainly those that have that “must pass cyclist no matter what cost” attitude.

What’s the fastest you’ve been on your Trek ebike?

Been in the 50s a couple times on my road bike going downhill. 40s a large amount when I lived in hillier areas than I live now. One criterium had a downhill then uphill section - 2 mile laps - hit that down hill with other riders around jockeying for position. Doing that was pretty crazy...

Nice looking bike. How do you like the DT swiss wheelset? Those aren't stock right?

First ebike century with my Allant 9.9s

Ha - I am absolutely nowhere near Fabian's level. Those guys are monsters. I never made it past cat 4. Mainly 2 reasons - bad racing tactics (constantly in the front - I've always been afraid of the surliness of the middle of the pack), and I simply never raced enough to learn how to race...

First ebike century with my Allant 9.9s

Thanks Johnny. It's a lot of years - lot of miles - I think maybe 50-60,000 lifetime miles since 2007/2008 or so. Now I have a family (3 kiddos), a career I want to focus on as well. The way I approach training takes too much of my time anymore. Maybe when the kids get older I guess I might...

First ebike century with my Allant 9.9s

Also - forgot to mention... I had the local Trek shop turn on the ability for me to turn off the lights. Those actually sap quite a bit of power believe it or not. Test it out sometime - turn the lights on with the bike just sitting - you'll see how much charge it uses just from the lights...

First ebike century with my Allant 9.9s

This is my current setup - 43 lbs with battery in the frame and without my panniers on. With those it gets probably up a bit more for my work things - probably 48-49 lbs. But this has been my weekend setup lately. Took the front fender off and decided to leave it off - not much rain the...

First ebike century with my Allant 9.9s

Very nice - more climbing than I can get in a 50 mile ride around here. What panniers or bags or trunks or whatever do you use to store your 2nd battery? I don't believe one would fit in the panniers I bought when I bought the bike. Here's mine from earlier this morning...

First ebike century with my Allant 9.9s

Sorry forgot to reply about the power output. I don’t use a power meter on this ride. I turn on wahoo fitness on my iPhone put it in my jersey pocket and just use the basic smartphone hub on the handlebar. I just go by feel on this bike. But I’m guessing maybe 190s output from myself on this...

First ebike century with my Allant 9.9s

ha - I guess so. A bit over a year ago I was running 20 minute ftp tests on zwift a hair above 300 watts. I’m 151 lbs currently but race shape I was 140s. I’m kind of done w racing :-(. Lots of hip and lower back issues in the last year. A lot of that was from bike commuting with a...
