    Orbea Gain for commuting?

Yep. But I see folk on $8000 bikes with $20 kmart helmets. Can never figure it out. Ah, the wait is on... I'd just wear all the gear while I drove the car around the neighbourhood. Including the helmet.

    Orbea Gain for commuting?

As a motorcycle rider, and a cyclist, my best advice is to buy the best helmet you can afford. There is a slight 'law of diminishing returns' at the very top end, but everything equal, the more you spend the lighter, more aerodynamic, more breathable, and perhaps safer helmet you'll get. If...

I think Melb23 is a new cyclist, so I assume all the stuff fun to buy... Helmet, clothing, bottles, pumps, etc etc ?

    Orbea Gain E-Road Bike

This is a good article, with one large error, thanks for the link. The biggest drawback the writer noted was that the ebikemotion system provided too much assistance. This has been stated in a number of other professional reviews - however, they have also added that with the companion app you...

Thanks, Tim - yes, great info. Back to an early question I had - how do you find the ability to get a workout from riding the fathom with a speedbox? I take it, as Alan111S kindly alerted me to, as the speed picks up, so does the cadence, so you are peddling faster (hence the need to look at...

Hey Tim, How do you find the Fathom with the Speedbox on pavement?

    Orbea Gain for commuting?

No I agree... but you can offset some of this cost with selling the brand new components on the flat bar bike. Commuters are always looking for things like new shifters (this is where the major cost is - a good alloy drop bar can be had for $50 aus). The issue still remains, unless I'm missing...

    Orbea Gain E-Road Bike

W Another way to look at it is that the Orbea is a relatively light weight bike to begin with. If the motor/battery dies after, as you say, four years, you can easily enough remove the battery and motor components and have a functioning sub 10kg regular bike in perpetuity.

    Orbea Gain for commuting?

Hmm, I think I'll try and get a good deal on the flat bar and put a nice after market drop bar.

    Orbea Gain E-Road Bike

It's really interesting, there seems there are two distinct groups of ebikers emerging. Those who basically want an electric motorbike, you know, 45km/h with some required effort (get to work not sweating). And those who want as close to a traditional biking experience as possible - still hurt...

    Orbea Gain for commuting?

By equivalent I mean F20 vs D30. There are minor differences, but from my quick search and doing some calculations the drop bar guys are getting hammered for no real reason? For $1000 I'm getting close to a di2 conversion between F20 and D30.

    Orbea Gain for commuting?

Hey Melbourne23, got any idea why the equivalent flat bar bike is $1000 RRP more than the drop bar? Seems odd?

105 group set is the sweet spot.

    Orbea Gain for commuting?

Yeah that's the trouble I'm having, stores are telling me they are special order and can't discount. I'll keep at it.

Hi all, I've been following this thread for a few months. I've been caught between all different bikes for a 40km round trip commute. From the Giant Fathom e mtb, which has great components and motor for the price, to an Orbea Gain, which aren't out in Aus as yet. Each time I'm ready to buy, I...
