More aggressive tires for Ultimate C380+?

So the Schwalbe "Energizer" (??) tires are fine for commuting. But on weekends I like to do rail trails with some gravel, etc. Compared to the Vado 4 tires that went over gravel much better these seem to kick the rocks to the side or the wheel will jump a little. I would like to get something...

    Tell Us About Your Commute.

10 miles round trip, not very hilly. shoulders for half, the other half I take one of the 2 lanes on a low traffic road. I thought I had a video of the whole ride but here's the last bit coming home literally seconds before a storm

Too Much Emphasis on Flat Protection

Different use cases. If you are optimizing range over comfort and convenience fine. For fun rides it's easier to risk a flat. 90% of my miles are commuting instead of the car. I have about 5 pounds of pyrex in my lunch kit every day I am not going to sweat a few ounces in a tougher tube if...

Too Much Emphasis on Flat Protection

That's fine for you and I agree everyone should know how to fix a flat. But even if you know how an ebike is usually a lot heavier and maybe more difficult to do than normal. And for most of us the added power means not worrying about rolling resistance or weight. If you can avoid the flat...

What’s causing all the ebike and escooter battery fires?

You guys are still missing my point. I am not drawing a conclusion based on a 5 minute google search. I am asking if anyone has ever experienced or heard of a battery fire from a UL/CE certified brand. I want to gather some anecdotal evidence. Yes I do have a belief that the name brands are...

What’s causing all the ebike and escooter battery fires?

Sure it could if you crack it open or put it in a fire. My question is more to the normal use do the better quality and safety certified batteries and bikes have any real life fires? In the few cases of fires were they said or you could try to see what brand they have been the cheaper off...

New : Turbo Vado 5.0 IGH Belt Drive

I haven't done it yet but I did watch some videos to be ready. you pop out the shifter cable, take a little tension off the belt and then remove the axle bolt. Installing is the reverse. No wrestling with greasy chain or derailleur.

    New Specialized Vado 5.0 IGH

Good to know. I didn't like the idea of programming your cadence and the computer shifting to match as it was explained. The LBS only had a small so I didn't ride it.

Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0 IGH Vs turbo Vado 3 IGH

I went through the same thing. It's too bad they didn't have a belt drive and manual IGH version of the Vado 4. I had a Vado 4 before and would love the same bike with a belt. I went with the Gazelle Ultimate 380+

    New Specialized Vado 5.0 IGH

That's a nice bike. I almost got one when I was upgrading my Vado 4 but I was wary of the computer controlled shifting. I know that concern might be silly when buying a computer controlled e bike but the belt drive and IGH was already new enough for me. I went with the Gazelle that had the...

What mode do you ride in and why?

Has anyone burned out a motor on a Vado or Gazelle? The Brose and the Bosch seem to be well designed with plenty of metal to dissipate heat I haven't heard of any trouble for the motor. Wearing out the 11t and the chain is a problem. I did that on my Vado last year with about 2000 miles. I...

What mode do you ride in and why?

You are right, I did wear out the chain and 11t sprocket on my Vado the first year. That is why I ditched the chain and went with a belt and IGH. So far so good. The battery should last a reasonable amount. I bought the bike to use it, otherwise why bother with an e bike? I do use 40-80...

What mode do you ride in and why?

I mostly commute 10 miles rt on my Gazelle 380+ (Class 3) and I almost always run TURBO (the highest boost 4 of 4) on the road. In the morning I might let the bike do more work so I don't arrive sweaty and in the evening I will give normal effort and generally average between 20 and 25 MPH...

Charging Ebikes on EV Charging stations

All the chargers should work on either AC voltage but the output will be the same. The Level 2 J1442 chargers are 220 volts. I would have to look at the spec again but you might be able to tell them to use 110 but for a bike charger it won't make a difference.

Charging Ebikes on EV Charging stations

I have ebikes and an EV am on the EV side here. It's a neat hack if the charger is unused but bikes should defer to cars in this. Do you need to charge there or is it just free electricity? Especially with 2 batteries on your bike that's a lot of range. Ideally though they should add an...

Ultimate C380+ Water bottle cage location other than Seat Tube?

How often do you use the extra battery? I am toying with the idea but not sure I really need it. My wife's Trek uses the powerpack 400 so I wouldn't have to buy a new battery yet that I wouldn't use often.

Commuter Ebike for heavy rider (ended up choosing RR(Ride1UP Prodigy ST)

I sold my Turbo Vado 4 to a friend recently and he loves it. He's a larger sized guy and we chipped in and got him a nice bike a few years ago. He lost over 120 pounds. Then COVID happened and he found it. He also has a job about 11 miles away and was having trouble getting motivated to...

    Specialized Vado 4.0 - Beware

Mine was wearing out closer to 2k before I noticed it. I replaced the cassette, chain, and the front with a larger chainring. I went from the stock 40t to a 44t. The idea was that if I spent most of my miles commuting in turbo mode I would try to get a higher gear range and spread the wear...
