New Specialized Vado 5.0 IGH

New member from the PNW. I've been a cyclist off and on for 30+ years. I rented a Como on vacation and loved it so I came home and bought a Vado which I feel is a better bike overall for what I like to do.

I picked up my new Vado on Thursday and have put 43 miles on it so far . I love this bike, shifting and ride is ridiculously smooth. I took a bottle cage off one of my road bikes and added a bar mirror but nothing else so far. I do have a Basil sport trunck on order that should be here next week.

Nice 5.0, let us know how you do on mileage with that 730Wh batt, I have the 3.0 IGH with the 500Wh and I'm getting about 50-60 miles in Blue and Green assist modes. My wife's 4.0 does a lot better.

I haven't had time to go on longer ride yet but the first one I did was 27 flat miles out and back. I decided to head out in sport mode to see how it performed so I rode out in sport with a pretty good 45 deg side wind. I live about an hour from the WA state coast so we alway get the wind off the ocean in the afternoon at this time of year. So, when I turned around I had a full 12-15 mph head wind all the way back so I wan it in turbo.

I am 220 lbs on the bike and even with the wind set on sport for 13.5 and turbo for the return, I had used 550wh. In comparison, the next day I did a 12 mile ride all eco mode and used 130wh with wind again but not as bad. The next day I did the same ride with not much wind at all but all sport mode and used 180wh.

By my calculations, I would think using eco/sport my ride time would be in the 50-60 mile range also. For the record, I was pushing hard on all of these rides so I don'thave data to how much would be used on a more casual ride. I left for the WA coast on Wed and staying until Monday and I could not bring my bike. I told my wife when we got here that I missed my bike.

Another thing, after my ride Wed morning before leaving I read on here about calibrating. I went out and did that, then rode about a mile. The bike felt better, shifted smoother and seemed like it had more power. I will be interested to see if that affects the range.

I wonder if the 730 Watt Battery will ever be available for purchase . although I really don't see myself going farther then 50 miles in a single ride . Which is what I get in Eco mode with 35% Assist already . To be exact I rode 54 miles and still had juice left at the end . That's with the 500 W Battery . Average speed said 18.5 MPH . Max was 31 mph . I should mention I am 5'11 and weigh 171 currently .

My LBS still had one Med Vado 5.0 IGH in stock, mine is a large and it was the last one.

That's a nice bike. I almost got one when I was upgrading my Vado 4 but I was wary of the computer controlled shifting. I know that concern might be silly when buying a computer controlled e bike but the belt drive and IGH was already new enough for me. I went with the Gazelle that had the belt and the manual version of the Enviolo shifter.

I am curious how you like the automatic after you have ridden a while. Do you notice it shifting? I notice with my 380 that it shifts much easier if I let off power briefly.

Yeah I need the Large . I already have a 2020 Vado 4 . It appears like the New battery would work with it . So that's maybe what I will end up doing. I also use my Eco most of the time at 5% or 10%. SO I get like 75 miles that way .

I was curious about the shifting as well. The owner of the LBS went for a ride with me before I commited to it. It is very smooth and as you get tuned into it, you can tell when it shifts but it's almost silent. No need to let off the power.

Good to know. I didn't like the idea of programming your cadence and the computer shifting to match as it was explained. The LBS only had a small so I didn't ride it.

New member here as well, also from the PNW. I just purchased a Vado 5.0 IGH. Absolutely love it! Once I got my settings all dialed in, it really feels like the perfect bike for me. Regarding battery life, did a 40 mile loop yesterday on gravel and pavement, mainly sport mode, and a good amount of turbo in the wind and hilly sections, had about 50% left when I got back home!
