USA based renters insurance that covers eBikes?

Lemonade covers ebikes without throttles. Otherwise there is none. Researched this months ago.

Yamaha warranty. Something to consider. "Frame made wrong"

Very sorry to hear this, and if true, this shreds the value of getting a Yamaha, whose 3 year warranty was among the industry's best. Obviously not if they don't meaningfully honor it. Yamaha was already a weak choice given it's awfully small and remote dealer network. It's probably too late...

Why do the top manufacturers embrace 36 volt/ 250 watt power systems?

It's a shame you know so much and still wildly slander with a broad brush. Cannondale, Trek and Stromer all use 42+ v hub motors. https://www.cannondale.com/en-us/bikes/electric/e-urban/adventure-neo-allroad/adventure-neo-allroad-speed Also funny that you use mass produced as an epithet, as if...

The Empire Strikes Back: Big Bike Brand Offers $2k 28 mph E-Bike w/Torque Sensor (Cannondale Adventure Neo Allroad S)

Now that I think about it, it is odd that their first hub motor class 3 is an MTBish bike, vs say a dedicated urban bike. Prob their urban bikes aren't being refreshed yet.

The Empire Strikes Back: Big Bike Brand Offers $2k 28 mph E-Bike w/Torque Sensor (Cannondale Adventure Neo Allroad S)

This is very encouraging. Brands like Juiced, Aventon, Ride1Up arguably exist because the big, bike shop brands neglected this segment of the market for so long. The neglect also created a near monopoly for Bosch at the higher end of the market. Without the Bosch tax, big brands can be quite...

Just found a cracked rim on my allant 8

Yeah those aren't as good as Conti/Schwalbe high end ones. Conti Urban Contact 62-584 is 695g weight, Bontrager is 1280g. You're blaming width when the issue is tire tread quality.

For District of Columbia residents, an ebike purchase incentive is coming

Great post, thank you for compiling and writing this. I agree with the advisory council, that the emaciated funding in Denver makes a mockery of the concept, and yet it gets so much breathless uncritical coverage. That's probably my biggest concern, that we underfund it, and worse, go with...

Velotric Thunder might be cooler than the VanMoof

Apparently it can be unlocked to go 20+ mph. https://electrek.co/2023/04/17/velotric-thunder-1-launched-lightweight-urban-e-bike/ Assuming the software is well executed, this bike looks very promising, for people who don't mind a non removable battery anyway.

    Trek FX+2 E-Bike died

Stores don't know anything about proprietary electronics. Brands/Bosch etc deliberately lock them out. Nothing like pedal bike parts.

Velotric Thunder might be cooler than the VanMoof

Lol I think the auto shifting on the Vanmoof was the biggest single source of complaints around bike defects, or close to it. How is its absence a con lol

Velotric Thunder might be cooler than the VanMoof

Looks very interesting. The non removable battery is a dealbreaker for many, but it does have its benefits. Biggest flaw with the bike is that it's class 1. 20 mph is just not very fast for a road or even hybrid bike, so a 20 mph means the assist will cut out right as you're reaching a natural...

    New Haul ST from Specialized….

Ask them how much a spare battery is. They won't tell you. I asked and got nothing. They know they are competing against brands like Aventon and Lectric who will charge half as much for a spare battery. Important when you have to spend $1000 on a battery on a bike that's lost 50%+ of its value.

Will EBikeshare Replace EBike Ownership For Most People in Cities?

I started it when the share companies claimed they could make money charging $2 for a 30 minute ride. This was a flagrant falsehood. Probably a lie. Now it would cost $15 or so. Also, outside of NYC, personal bikes are vastly more popular. Notice how the bike boom outside NY was exclusively a...

Will EBikeshare Replace EBike Ownership For Most People in Cities?

The NYC system has been ordered by the local government to subsidize passes for the poor as well as coverage in outlying areas where ridership is lower and thus the service has higher costs per ride. The more such mandates the service has to comply with, the more it has to charge. While those...

Yamaha charging $2475.00 for a battery

That is insane. Hate how these companies tout how green they are, how they recycle batteries and plant daisies etc when they make deliberate moves to destroy the value of used ebikes. I know our governments don't take these things seriously, but there should be a rule mandating at point of sale...

Yamaha charging $2475.00 for a battery

I wonder if that would work in Yamaha bikes. Batteries are a wear item. They're not covered, not after a 2-3 year period typically. Contact info here https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/yamaha-ebikes.25359/#post-164064 All in all though, Yamaha seems like such a wasted opportunity...
