    Loose spokes?

    > Could loose spokes be a culprit for a recurring rhythmic "squeak/chirp" kind of noise Yes > And - what constitutes a loose spoke? I ask because I was cleaning my bike and noticed > that the front wheel, no spoke had any "sideways wiggle-ability"... but the rear wheel -- > some were quite...

ShareRoller - Quick and Dirty Electric Bikes

If I recall correctly, I first read about ShareRoller back in 2013. I think it was 2015 when they did the Indiegogo thing to generate funding. So, now it’s April 2018 and they are still playing in the workshop adding complexity, making excuses, and trying to pacify consumers with their latest...

Why aren't there CHEAP & RELIABLE e-bikes in North America?

Just an observation, but it appears that Japan, China, the Scandinavian countries, and others, see the bicycle as a worthy utilitarian device. Such designs, and most especially e-powered units, do not benefit much from low-bar aerodynamic ergonomics. Although there are indications of change, the...

Poll: Do you wear a helmet when riding

An ebike isn't more prone to cracking your skull than a standard pedal bike. When pondering the value of wearing a helmet, consider that the meager price of a styrofoam shell is a LOT cheaper than living with brain damage.

Mid drives vs Hub drives ???

Your posting reads like an attempt to self justify a business model that isn't working well. Follow the demand curve or fail. You might be seeing more repair work for mids because more are being sold than hubs? Possibly, mid-drives are popular because they are way better climbers, and can do...

Shimano STEPS E6000 - This is a thread with some love but most salt.+ need help and tips

No idea how the bikes in Norway are set up, but my experiences with the US Steps E6000 powered bikes is that the power assist clips at 20mph. At that point it does not apply engine braking, just disengages. The rider can then ride faster with leg power, or free roll at higher speed down a...

Got hooked on ebikes after trying an electric bike share rental.

The JUMP has a 250 watt front hub with a 19mph top speed. If you plan to ride those SF hills, a 250 watt mid-drive will be a LOT stronger than a 250w hub.

Im after a good qualty long lasting hub motor kit with batery

Any kit with a Bafang/8Fun motor is usually good. There are other brands that might be stronger, but often they lack the support network. Where are you located?

Mid drive, Gates belt and hub gears.

Although they are efficient and work very well, I get it that derailleurs are mystical to some people, and their maintenance is messy. In that regard, the IGH and toothed-belt drive systems do make a lot of sense. Unlike chain, a belt needs to run at a high tension between the pulleys which...

    Your other bikes ?

It was a message when I realized how much my leg muscles had atrophied after a season riding the assisted bike. Now, when I'm not in a hurry to go someplace or get a job finished, I take the standard bike and sweat a little. So, 70% PAS ebike and 30% pedal bike.

Disappointing maiden ride with 500W ebike

From my experiences, a 250 watt mid-drive is not a fast climber but it is an easier climber than a 500 watt geared hub. Getting to know your existing bike better is not going to improve its performance. I would advise that you arrange test rides before making the final deci$ion. Your...

    What’s a better buy BBS01 or BBS02

The 250w will feel more like a power assisted bicycle than a Moped. IMO, that is a positive feature. It will climb the same hills as the larger motors, but a bit slower if you need to gear down. Ask Luna about the headlight because the controller they are using might have a lead for it.

Best mid-drive mtn bike under $2500?

Rage against eBikes is out there. Car drivers dislike them and some hardcore bicyclists truly hate them. Even when riding MUPs slowly and politely, you can hear disparaging comments from pedestrians. It's a rare week when I don't get some negative vibes.
