    Upgrades to my XM700+

I decided to upgrade the Deore components to XT. I think the only additional change will be to add a 40 or 42 Sprocket in the rear. Here is the list of my current upgrades. FRAME SET Front suspension Rock Shox - Paragon Gold WHEELS Skewers Delta Cycle KnoxNut Skewer Set DRIVETRAIN...

I'm a newbie from Oregon with a Trek xm 700+.

I made two recent upgrades that you might find of interest. Rock Shox Paragon Front Fork Body Float seatpost. Just like my car, I'm never finished adding/removing/modding parts. jeff

Has anyone added a front derailleur to a Bosch?

I did some math on the setup. There is lots of overlap with the smallest and largest sprockets readily available sizes. Still might be a fun hack. With new digital shifting solutions that move the front derailleur for you, it give some extra speed at one end and lots of climb at the other with...

Has anyone added a front derailleur to a Bosch?

I've seen three or four difference cog sizes for the front of the mid drive. Most bikes use a front derailleur to switch between cogs. Has anyone ever hacked a Bosch mid-drive to have multiple front cogs and a front derailleur? Just off the top of my head, there is probably not enough...

Sky Lane trail plan in San Jose (Silicon Valley)

My wife and I rode the "Guadalupe River Trail" three weekends ago. It travels through a few homeless camps that might make people uncomfortable. Also there was at least one point where we had to go onto a street to find the next section of the trail. The San Francisco Bay Area should have the...

    Help upgrading to electronic shifiting.

Well I ended up switching out the shifter and derailleur from Shimano SLX to Shimano XT. I got much easier shifting but still not super-easy. I also "joined" a Kickstarter for an electric solenoid based shifting system that is supposed to ship in the spring. It replaces the long cable from the...

Nyon's eBike Connect Application from Bosch

After I signed-up for the eBike connect application and rode my bike I got this cool chart! Very nice!! It helps to know that I'm doing some of the work :) jeff

Nyon Upgrade in USA worked out of the box!

The Nyon I got has 8gb of flash. The US is broken into states, I downloaded all of them. Still have 5gb left, I don't know what else I can use the extra flash for. jeff

Nyon Upgrade in USA worked out of the box!

Did my first ride with the Nyon on Thursday. I got lost and the GPS did what it was supposed to :). They have a very nice "Get me home" menu selection worked like a charm. I was able to purchase an iTunes gift card for the UK from e-bay than sign in with my "English" me. I then purchased the...

    Bosch Engine Noise

My guess is that most of the noise we hear is from gear lash. There are some very cool videos on youtube about how the air gets pressed between the teeth of the gears. There are also some cutaway photos of the gears, google can be your friend. http://papers.sae.org/911943/ jeff

    Trek xm700+ three month ownership

I did purchase a Nyon from Europe and it was delivered in about a week. Installed it without any issues. I even "needed" the map as I got seriously lost the first time out :). I'll put the COBI on a different bike if they ever get the firmware working. jeff

    Best methods to secure components

You don't need to keep your bike super secure, just more secure than the bike next to you ;) I replaced my skewers with "Delta Cycle KnoxNut Skewer Set". Not a perfect, but better than quick release. jeff

Nyon Upgrade in USA worked out of the box!

Another hitch... I am not allowed to use a US credit card in the British store so I cannot purchase the "Custom Riding Modes" or "Topo Range" in app purchases. The "eBike Connect" app for the iPhone is free so downloading it from the British store was simply a matter of creating a new AppleID...

Nyon Upgrade in USA worked out of the box!

I purchased a Trek XM700+ a few weeks ago. I wanted to get the Nyon system that is available in Europe installed on my bike and was told "It won't work!" I purchased it anyway and just installed it... Works great. The only hitch is that I had to create a British iTunes account so I could...

    Electric Bike Weight Ratings

Do people still just "pluck" their spokes to check for tension? I saw a gauge sold by Park Tools, is that something that plain ol' bike owners purchase?

Is it okay to park an e-bike outdoors in rain during work day?

Water intrusion is always a problem with electronic and mechanical parts. My son lives in OR, his office lets employees bring their bikes inside. Where I work, we have a bike locker inside the parking garage. Some people just bring their bikes to their desks, or park them in a long hallway...
