    The Terrible Awful Chainguard

The chain popping off points to a mechanical problem that needs to be fixed. No way that should be happening. Like Mr. Coffee, I've removed the chain guard on every bike I've ever owned, mainly because they've all gotten bent or out of alignment and rubbed the chain at some point.

    Best post-apocalyptic bug-out bike?

I don't think you'll get too far using a power drill battery :).....and it would seem this is not a post apocalyptic time, we're living in the midst of a rapidly deteriorating and changing situation. There's a ton of inexpensive, perfectly fine eBikes out there, but yesterday I saw a guy w/ a...

cant tell if my headset is a bit loose.

A little grease migrating is normal. Lock your front brake and push the bike forward and backward while straddling it. Look at the headset when you do this and see if you notice any play. There's probably a thousand youtube videos showing how to adjust and/or lube the headset yourself. It's...

    Justifiable in New England?

Wouldn't it would be much better to move to a more enjoyable climate regardless of whether you ride a bike or not? I never understood why people live in these extreme cold weather areas anyway. Some point to friends, family, jobs, whatever, but just you watch what happens when you move to...

The 'Dirty Little Secret of the E-Bike Industry'.

It's not stealing and it's not a dirty secret. The basic design of a pedal bike has not changed substantially for what, well over 100 years? Sure there are recumbents and a few other esoteric designs, but other than that, a bike, is a bike, is a bike. It's only natural that eBikes would follow...

<^> InvertGen for ebike batt <^>

It sounds too Rube Goldbergish to tote a gas generator on an electric powered bike. Makes more sense to just go to a small 4 stroke gas engine if you're going to do that, or bring your battery and a small charger into a coffeehouse and charge it there. If you're camping at a camp site in a park...

Bridgestone ebikes have front re-gen hub motor, extending range by over 40%

I would like to see the facts on a 40% increase. That sounds like advertising malarkey to me.

Full Face light Moto Helmet - best protection from the Particle(Covid19) ?

Do you mean a cloth mask? That is very ineffective unless an infected person coughed near you, it is mainly for not spreading it to others if you are infected. The virus can live a day on wood or cardboard and up to three days on steel or other metals. The spread of the virus is not restricted...

Avoiding public transport - another benefit of ebike

This is certainly a timely post. I moved to a new city, Tucson, just 10 days ago, and had planned on riding the buses to see the city. Now that things are progressing with this virus, I am not about to get on a bus. Thank goodness I have my eBike! I also won't go to large gatherings of people...

A man who really wanted his morning coffee builds an eBike

Sometimes I get these alerts from a website called Instructables. It seems someone was highly focused on fetching his Starbucks coffee, so he built a dedicated eBike just for that. It's an interesting story w/ pics. He obviously had never done anything like this before, and while some of it made...

    Interesting take on commuting

If you truly want to be freed from the tyranny of commuter traffic, take the bus (w/ the bike on the bus rack).

    New Ami electric "quadcycle"

Cute. I'm going to buy one for my cat. Should be interesting the first time one of these meets up with a big truck.

Switching from a 20 inch rear tire to a 24 on a trike

Not sure if my math is right, but if you had gone from a 20" tire to one that was 22", you would have increased the diameter by 10%. Double that because you went to a 24" tire and you get an increase in diameter of 20%. Figuring that you were getting 12 mph w/ the 20" tires, you should be able...

    What are these?

Those actually hold the bike together....OMG, you didn't actually take them out did you :)

review of my wattwagon full suspension bike

It looks very nice, but I wouldn't trust that rear suspension design 50' from the looks of that first picture. Far too lightweight. I can't believe what I'm seeing, they mounted a rear suspension pivot point there at the tail end of the top tube? From an engineering stand point, that makes no...

What's the ebike wattage rating? 750W = 1 horsepower? or is it simply the consumption of electricity.

Not quite. A car engine that produces 1001 hp actually produces 1001 horsepower. The power is measured at the crank, it's exactly what you get. An internal combustion engine's horsepower is determined by many, many things, including friction, design, fuel, altitude, etc, but not heat. To my...

    Kabsride

Apparently, your bike is powered by a small, rear mounted battery. Probably the best way to remove it is to come near it w/ a cat and it will remove itself.

    Options for carrying spare battery?

Duck tape, she holds the world together. However you decide to mount it, mount it low so as not to make the bike top heavy and unstable.

Are you telling me you are carrying the spare battery in a backpack?!

Might be best to mount an extra battery as low as possible and avoid a top heavy, ill handling bike? My spare one is going to be mounted on the down tube as low as practical. I'm not sure why people are stressing about a battery getting wet. I ride my eBike in the rain and never have any issues...

    Birdwatching while bike riding!?

Obviously we now need some ostrich protected bike lanes. Because you just never know.
