I have a new 2010 Kalkoff E-Bike that I would like to convert over to a BAFANG or TOSeven Mid Engine motor.
Does anyone have any type of experience doing this or has heard of anyone doing this?
I have been told that Kalkoff ebikes do NOT have a BOTTOM BRACKET SHELF that these other motors can hook onto- Is that correct ?
Would I have to weld one on??

A bicycle bottom bracket isn't a shelf. It is a short tube that houses bearings for the crankset. If your bike doesn't have one, you will have a hard time installing a motor that is intended to mount into one.

Someone sent me this picture, that they said was of a Kalkoff frame, I am not sure if the round hole is the Bottom Bracket, its such a bad picture, and I have not been able to remove my motor to see whats there
Can anyone confirm if this is the picture of a Kalkoff Pronnect S

There may be a place to mount the bottom bracket, but that looks like a proprietary motor mount that would get in the way and you would have to remove. @PedalUma has mounted a lot of these mid-motor kits and could probably provide better direction on that. Personally, I think you would be better off using a different donor bike for your kit.

Yes; That is for a 2010 24V 200W Panasonic motor. Use a standard frame with an english bottom bracket shell that is 38.8 in its inner diameter and 68-73 in width. I think this is the person in San Diego who emailed me today.

Run for the Hills - Thank you for your input, But I have waited 15 years to use this bike, being in storage and out of the country, then having to buy it in England (There were NO EBIKES in the US in 2009) then paying to FedEx it here, then paying customs, then paying to store it, I won't give up until I get it to work. I guess I'm pigheaded about this, but went to TOOO much trouble so far. I dont want to quit. I know I can buy a new bike but...I am waiting for reply from

The sunk cost fallacy is a cognitive bias where individuals continue a failing endeavor. Don't be that person. Put your motor kit on a bicycle that will be a joy to ride and own, not some old project that you put away for 15 years and forgot about. There are so many better choices out there that would only cost a few hundred dollars to pick up on Craigslist.

Exactly. This woman's starter bike was $100 at a yardsale. It was a Covid buy and never ridden. I gave it some upgrades and installed the motor and battery. The tires had a seam flap of rubber along the center. New its a $900 starter bike. Now it will rundown and pass $14,400 bikes from stores and will all the feel of a real bike. And with so much classic style and no chunky clunkiness. How many eBikes have polished crankarms and a silver motor?

You own the bike. Just post a picture of it. If this is representative, you probably have to cut the bracket off. It might need rewelding to maintain frame integrity. Might not, if cut carefully.

Why a new motor? If the Kalkhoff is never used , get rid of the existing 15 year old battery and install your own. It should still run then,

I understand nostalgia/emotion and how they influence restoration. It's your money and you can spend it how you wish. This Kalkoff doesn't look too clunky.

IMO listen to Harry. Why not just buy a 24v battery?
Per this 15 year old UK pedelecs forum post
"Positive connection to the platform pin position 5 nearest the front of the bike.
Negative connection to the platform pin position 2 nearest the rear of the bike.
The pin position 3 in between is redundant then."

@EMXG, She had the old battery repacked. It still does not run. Port three may be for communication with the controller. Just like a speed sensor has three wires, red, black, white. White is the signal.

Replace/rebuild the battery or scrap the whole thing.
Trying to fit a different motor to that bike frame is a clusterfuck waiting to happen.

The "algia" part of nostalgia means sickness. It originally had 200W; so, as sucky as a Stefan bike.

If nostalgia is really important... Then keeping the motor and replacing the consumable battery is the only way to keep it authentic.
Otherwise it'll be the whore of Frankenstein

They look to have a bottom bracket that was used to house electrical connections. The Panasonic motor mount appears to have been added below the bottom bracket, maybe to repurpose a standard bike frame - at least it looks that way, sort of. Angle grinder to cut off the motor bracket and maybe an aftermarket motor might fit, depending on the dimensions of the shell. OP needs to remove the motor and see for themselves. I'd check the recelled battery Pedaluma mentioned with a multimeter to be sure connections and voltage are correct.

the whore of Frankenstein
That was a really good book. I loved it. And I loved it when her magical giant sled dog-wolf barfs an intact walrus onto Freud's rug! How's that for a phallus? She starts as the Whore of Frankenstein covered in jiz and by the end is a transcendent immortal goddess. Mary Shelley wrote the original when she was 17. There was never a book like it at the time. And it is very Jungian. Just like Moore's book. What is interesting it the more sensual and granularly specific the descriptions in a book the more disbelief can be suspended and collective cultural consciousness archetypes explored and juxtapozed. She is also a killer of Johns and painters model. If you think this is BS, read a review.
