Battery for the Pace 500.2?

Exactly what I am thinking. I need him to clarify things. Thanks for the heads up. I remember mentioning to him that the Demo probably has a weak battery blah blah. Then he mentioned v2/v3. And then I know the v3 would need an adapter or conversion to fit the Pace 500.2. Now that I know all this maybe ask him for a better v2 battery OR just use what’s attached and I will use my Core battery as well. Hmm.

This was the stores reply to an email of mine,

Not to worry. I would have my technician upgrade the bike battery to a v3 so that it's a new battery. The goal here should be to get you the newest, up-to-date version of that bike so that it will be relevant in a couple years and if you needed to change a battery, then we would have it in stock or other dealers would have it in stock.

We had the bike sitting in a box and it's been used for test rides.
And I still somewhat wonder if it’s used in test rides it only has 10 miles or km on the bike. I think he has been honest throughout BUT I need a bit more clarity.

As long as the battery wasn't fully charged then stored away in a box, then the battery should be fine.

I'm pretty sure that the update is proprietary so you'll Have To use an Aventon battery in the future?

Using the Core battery you already have along with the Pace battery just makes sense.
You can carry the second battery with you to extend your range.

The Reention EEL battery and the case is standard, and you have lots of options for purchasing another one.
And if you don't need extended range, the smaller (less Ah) batteries are both cheaper and lighter.

The Only problem with the older version is that you can't use it on a V3, but Pace 500.2 doesn't use it anyway without an upgrade.

Ohh, and if the controller can communicate with the battery, the battery can be monitored for lots of things.

My display can tell me a lot about my batteries, and know which battery I'm using, but my battery doesn't have the communication wire,..

Aww so I should get him to clarify what he plans to do with the bike before shipping OR I should just tell him to leave the v2 battery. As is I am assuming. And then as you say I will have options if need be down the road. As a commuter every day I am really only hoping to have this 2/3 years before I might see some bigger issues. Longer the better of course. Thanks for all your input!

I think that you should buy it as is, especially if you will be charged for an upgrade.
He is a salesman, and won't mind selling you something.
(PS,.. I don't need all that battery info. Not having proprietary software in my batteries is worth the trade-off for me.)
(PSS,.. I'm just speculating about all this. I don't know a V2 from a V3 from a hole in the ground. 😁)

I see. And agree having options is better. As long as my Core battery works and more are available if needed. I think I will tell him to leave the battery as is lol.

@rcdanner appears to have done it, so you should be fine.

I noticed this in the ad link that @rcdanner posted,..

It says "not compatible with Pace 500 step through"

I found a YouTube video that shows the original Pace 500 step through ebike,..

That's the same battery I have for my ebikes.
Mine are in a slightly bigger case though without the handle on the side, but will all fit my battery brackets.

The ad also says that the battery IS COMPATIBLE with the Pace 500.3 ?
I dunno about that ??

Perhaps the communication wire (which I'm assuming is on the V3 version?), Isn't proprietary and simply provides battery information to the controller and display??

But it is an Ebay ad, and the information might not be correct ??

Maybe someone on this Aventon forum can answer your question.

I'm pretty sure that if you upgrade, you won't be able to use your Core battery on the Pace?

That is a waste of a good battery.

It has been answered yes the core 5 and pace 500.2 are interchangeable.

It sounds like the upgrade essentially converts the pace 500.2 into a pace 500.3, then your core 5 battery will not work on the pace ?

You could ask the salesman specifically.

I did ask him this morning. He will do whatever I wish. Leave it as is or make it into a V3 supported but then it makes my Core-5 no good for the Pace 500.2

Well,.. It's your call.

I was faced with the exact same choice.

I bought my second ebike because I could use the batteries from my first ebike on it.

I could have bought the V2 for the same price, but I wanted to keep using my other batteries.

I did spend $840 for a second 25ah battery and charger for my first ebike, and I sure as hell wasn't going to let it go to waste.

I am seriously in a Pace 500.2 demo with 10 miles on it. Obviously concerned about the degradation of the battery considering this bike is an older model. And apparently there are no replacements. Except some kit is added so that a v3 battery fits? How does that work?
Hello!

We're excited that you're considering the 500.2! We noticed you mentioned a battery adapter in your other comments, and we wanted to clarify that it is not an add-on for the bike, but rather a replacement. The terminal on the bike where the battery connects will be replaced with the 500.3 version, which will accept both the newer version battery and your original 500.2 battery. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to our team! Lastly, since we cannot confirm the compatibility of third-party batteries, we recommend using only Aventon components to ensure proper functionality.

For reference, check out the installation guide for the terminal. https://rideaventon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/22551697480091-Pace-500-2-Battery-Terminal-Install

Thank you! - Aventon.

Oh, thanks for confirmation that this new replacement allows both v3 and v2 batteries! Good to know. What are they replacing on the pace 500.2 then?

Does any one know if the new 36V battery system used by Aventon a common battery you can get from different OEMs?

Regarding the Pace 500.2, the only change required was to the new terminal version. The battery update was necessary due to a supplier change, so we cannot provide the exact 500.2 component. However, this new terminal and battery setup is the solution. Everything else on the 500.2 will be replaced with the original parts. Thank you!
