My solo Tour de Carlsbad is running concurrently with the Tour de France. From yesterday's hilly Stage 4...

Fans along Encinitas Creek on the way to another brilliant stage win.
Did what no pro could ever do: I loafed. Stopped here to ogle the ENE skyline — a distant and very faint Palomar Mountain (6,142 ft) on the left, Double Peak (1,645 ft) at right center atop the much closer San Elijo Hills.
Planning a stage with a tough summit finish on Double Peak. The last 2 miles up steepen from 10% to 20%, but you're amply rewarded with a stunning 360° view of the mountains and coast from the greater LA area to Mexico.

I am a lucky to see this changing viewpoint on my backyard ride (looking from Belmont area, looking West towards Half Moon Bay), the route start normally was 3 miles from house (freeway, main road intersections take about 20 mins riding my other bike.). my Creo allows me to ride from my house to this mellow road ride.

Beautiful view across Crystal Springs Reservoir! Those Bay Area fogfalls over coastal ridges never get old — as long as you're watching from afar and not chilled to the bone inside.
No worries — not always clear which of our 3 main photo threads is the best fit for a given post. And no one cares much anyway. This thread's used more for unusual stuff seen on rides, as the title implies. But most places don't have frequent fogfalls, and you ride there, so might as well post them here.
However, if that's not unusual enough: The miles-long chain of narrow straight-line valleys flooded by the reservoir is the surface trace of the San Andreas Fault. So you're biking on the North American plate and looking across to the Pacific plate as it scrapes by on its way to the Aleutian trench.

Many very high vertical road cuts in heavily fractured bedrock in Colorado. Lots of rockfalls like this but surprisingly few fatalities. US Hwy 50 through the narrow Arkansas River Gorge is the worst, but I-70 through the Front Range gets more than its share.
To remove boulders that big, CDOT has to fight back with dynamite and truck them out in pieces.

My bike meets its hero
Stopped in to see buddy Gary at Cadence Cyclery of Encinitas on today's Stage 10 of my solo Tour de Carlsbad. And what do I find but a $16k replica of the yellow Colnago V4Rs that overall winner Tadej Pogacar held high on the final podium of the 2024 Tour de France!!
My bike and I nearly fainted. The original was the very bike that inspired me to buy this yellow Specialized Vado SL 1 two months later. The replica lacks the original's carbon fiber chainring and little else.
Let's wallow in some prime bike porn, shall we? From front to back....
Cadence got 2 of them. The other was purchased on sight the next day. And they don't expect to have this one much longer.
They let me pick it up. Geez, no wonder Pogi could hold this thing high overhead: It weighs NOTHING! Words cannot express the lust in my heart.
