Reliability of ebike motors. Let the arguments commence!

Actually that's where they would be if we didn't open trade with them and allow them to steal and copy all our tech.
We proved for over a century that we can manufacture everything... then greed took over.

I've only an issue with one of two of my Bafang 750w rear hub motor on my Radrover with +4000 miles on each is when the odometer stopped working but still provide full PAS power and throttle when riding. My +3 year old mid-drive Bafang M620 Himiway Cobra Pro has been perfect. The wife has a 2018 Shengyi 750w direct drive rear hub on her Radcity that has been trouble-free.

The Chinese made clocks with gears and springs when the west used sundials. They had fine silk when the west had wool homespun. The root of machine is Chine.

Try cleaning the ferrous dust off the speed sensor pick up.

True....they have a lot of history and much to be proud of. But in modern history they were stuck.
Their position now is because of the west.
Take the precision of the Bafang Throttle... manufactured in Poland 🙃

Speed sensor provides information to calculate speed. The odometer is a function of the display/controller using the same information. If the speed is correct, then the sensor is working correctly.

Yeah, we kinda flew past them
Their entire modern world was purchased or stolen off mostly the west.
My girlfriend travelled China as a PA selling them digital telephone exchanges, complete with spyware, tbh
Thats probably where it started.

Their four game changing inventions were printing, gunpowder, the compass and paper, which were obviously as important as the electric motor in their day.

They are paying enormous royalties, these things get worked out in the end, joining the WTO is the first step.

Works both ways of course.

Then there was the opium war. The Brits drugged their population. And drank tea from bone china.

The usual, we played warring factions off against each other and paid off the powerful.
But anyway, what goes around...

150,000 Hong Kongers came to Britain after we gave it back and gave them residency, and now they are worried a huge Chinese Embassy is being built.

@dblhelix, is reading carefully. Yet, seldom commenting. She may have personal experience and insights with the silicon valley mentality of status, dependence, and obsolescence, and how it applies to 'special' bikes designed there. Your bike is now Windows 10.

Bias, or reality?
Let's hear it!

I call a bit of BS on those numbers Bosch is clearly the leader in terms of # of units in the field so of course they're going to have a higher percentage of failures.

Also they didn't specify the use case for the data. Riding all year long in southern California is vastly different than the PNW in terms of wear and tear.

Especially when they are ignored and abused by a major brand. Dropping $14,000 on a bike that is proprietary and useless makes people angry when they are asked to spend more yet blown off.
Exactly, exclusivity generates dependence and if the brand is not willing and close enough to really help, it's a mess

Many places will not service what they did not sell. I understand that Yamaha is out of the market. A bunch of brands have quit the North American market without brand specific parts being available to anyone. Some require dealer only firmware updates regularly. And no ability for users or independent shops to run diagnostics, or repair. It is so dumb to replace an entire motor because of something like a cadence sensor failure. The published battery fail rate of almost 30% for major brands is appalling. And I think baked in. As soon as the warranty is up, you need to buy a battery worth $400 for three times its real value because it is proprietary and likely internal. A normal two-wire replacement charger is $24 from multiple sources. A proprietary one is $250 from only one source.
