Battery recall thru the CPSC.

yikes thanks for the heads up, ill check my rad when i get home tonight, mine is a rad mission which isn't listed but still concerning.

Disappointing, Rad now have an opportunity to do right by their customers by offering a discount on a 1:1 swap of the affected old battery packs for a UL 2271 compliant potted battery. Rad say they offered a discount on a replacement battery but the CPSC did not accept. It reads as if CPSC could order a recall & replacement but have chosen not to do so at this time.

From what I infer from the above article is that the problem stems from water ingress into the battery. The pictured battery looks pretty much like what a lot of us use. So, really this is not an issue limited to Rad bikes. I guess not everyone has a bike shed.

My battery WAS NOT one of the ones mentioned in the recall. I still have a RadRunner 2 that I purchased while on sale, before the current model with the hydraulic brakes and Safe Shield battery. My 'Runner has been ridden in a downpour and left at a bike rack during a overnight storm or two. I must have gotten lucky in getting a good battery!

LOL really they say take it off and dispose of it, not in the UK, you would 100% get a replacement or refund or sue via the small claim court for free

luckily my rad mission has a different model number but definitely makes me think twice about storing it in the garage and maybe storing it in the shed? it is going on 4 years old and still runs like the first day i bought it so maybe got lucky. i don't generally ride in the rain if i can help it so maybe that has helped my cause too, who knows.

I tried to copy the link but my phone messed up. One of the more tech savvy can link it. Either way, it looks bad for Rad. Recall # 26-118 Issued on November 24 2025.
Bumping this old thread because I was looking for info on replacement parts and landed here. I used to ride a RadRunner daily but sold it after hearing too many battery horror stories.

The new owners of Rad have hinted at replacing the unsafe batteries, at least at a substantial discount. So if you have a Rad with a battery that was in that serial number bracket I'd reach out to Rad and see what happens.

That would be great for US owners, but UK & EU rider may be out of luck.
