Anyway... yesterday and today has been very wet, signs thankfully it's clearing now. The route for the first 4 days is bumpy (It's Britain after all) but basically flat-ish so either breakaways or sprint finish, plenty of attacks on the narrow twisty (and rough tarmac) roads. The joke among the continental riders about our rough tarmac is that it's good training for the Spring Classics on the cobbles! GC seem to be keeping powder dry, and trying to avoid any (frequent) crashes in the wet. No sign of Remco, suspect this is a training race for the Worlds to get up to race speed after his cracked/broken rib. The last 2 days Sat & Sun are in Wales ending in Cardiff in honour of Geraint. Loads of mountains both days so that's probably where the GC action will be unless someone slips away in the rain earlier!
While watching a live feed yesterday the message board caught my eye - one gentleman complaining loudly about the roads closed near the finish line an outrage - didn't they know people had places to drive and kids to collect from school? A world class sporting event and he's intent on complaining about the necessary safety measures. Bet he doesn't actually have any kids (loads of shots of happy kids and teachers in their little raincoats cheering on from sides of roads as the riders pass) Bet the road closures are preventing him from painting more red crosses on the roundabouts...
