2025 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Got caught out on an Instagram advert for Keen sandals. Crazy low prices should have smelled a rat but only had second thoughts after I bought 2 pairs. Contacted my bank. Second mistake was I paid by debit card not credit card so they haven't cancelled the order and to get a refund I now have to lodge a dispute and it's beyond tedious. Another black mark against social media firms who just care about profits and won't take down the dodgy advert despite Keen contacting them. Ruining democracy our pockets and our sanity.

Credit Card ALWAYS!

Simple whois when logged into your website registars page is usually enough to see boogies. At least if you own or build websites that is

I saw a notice of a Specialized warehouse sale…IDK how the prices can be real…Vado 4 $900 as well as many others similarly priced. I don’t need a new bike but should I send this to friends who have admired mine? Prices seem to be too low. I might get a helmet

Geez, you just had to show me that! Let's see, what organ can I sell for $980?

It did seem unbelievable though I’ve seen some big sales on accessories in REI. I know the market is soft and the US‘s economic situation has begun its slow turn to steep slide so…
On another front it seems NATO has been utilizing eBikes on maneuver in Poland. Stefan…explain yourself

I just ordered a pair of Keen’s myself…but from their website…more July 4th sales
Instagram/Facebook/Meta…Zuckerborg (sic) and pals with their doom hotels buried on tropical islands…they’ve paid the Don chump change for no regulation.

Come on... They all ride on the throttle :D Motorcycles have been known to the military for a long time :)

There's a company making such e-motorcycles for the Army, and I heard of the use of these in Ukraine. There is a Warsaw guy who laid his hands on some, and took all E-Bike KOMs in Warsaw. I reported each to Strava as "riding a vehicle" and Strava agreed with me :)

This is just another example of we nail you to the floor, but scammers...meh let them get on with it

Why do the allow someone to easily register specializedstore-us, its quite clearly going to be a scam.
So many scam site use derivatives of famous websites and are we supposed to believe this is beyond them to police , and to make matters wirse so many high profile domains take you to obscurely named partners in the middle of transactions
I'll just buy this off Nike com, click buy...oh look the url is sis.payments.org.
How the freak are we supposed to keep up with this.
Of course we know the end game..
Its rhe wild west out there, log everything through our government systems, we'll keep you safe.

Because Specialized would have to buy the domain, and it might be pricey. Risk vs. Reward. Lawyers can shut this crap down in 48 hours.

They can make a realistic video of an Elephant rowing down the Thames dressed as Batman, but they cant police sub domain scraping.
They can detect nudity on all iphone photographs, but they cant monitor people registering suspiciously similar domain names and flag them for more proof.
They could, they just cant be arsed.
Oh and yes, the UK government has just released an all Gov app, they want you to store your entire life on it.
To 'help' improve security.

We have had it in Poland for several years now.
The operations with the Vehicle Department have never been easier.
We have electronic prescriptions, works like a charm.
You do not need to carry documents such as ID or a driving license, the app does. (You need a physical ID abroad inside the EU though).

Besides, do you guys have personal IDs in Britain?

Life is good. One who can see conspiracy and government malice everywhere must be a miserable person. None of us is that important.

The backbone of British and American society is not to trust the government.
Every single thing they do, we are...
What are they up to?
They store the census on googles servers, is that safe?
Trust us bro

Our weather has been awful for days and the forecast for today wasn't looking the best either, imagine my surprise when I got up for the toilet at 5.45am and it was lovely outside and the roads were bone dry! Another look at the forecast and it was showing a 50% chance of rain from 8am and getting worse as the day progressed! I decided to take my chances and just go for it as tomorrow was looking even worse, so I set off at 6.25am and made my way NW towards the Campsie Hills, passing over the canal at Auchinstarry and the sun actually made a short appearance!

The reflections from the trees were stunning at this early hour!

I then took the back road towards Twechar which also runs alongside the canal and grabbed another photo!

1751546148596.jpeg

Its such a great road and at this time in the morning I didn't see a single car!

1751546197474.jpeg

I passed through Twechar and continued west into Kirkintilloch where the morning traffic was starting to build, I turned north here towards Milton of Campsie and then NW into Lennoxtown in the foothills of the Campsie Hills! It was time to start the 3 mile climb, it has an average gradient of 5.2% so enough to warm me up as it was only 9C at this point! I reached the summit and stopped for a couple of photos before starting down the descent!

I was nudging 40mph down this part!

1751546567999.jpeg

Almost at the bottom now and getting ready to start a 2 mile climb almost immediately, I would be heading east now though and had a 20mph SW wind helping me!

1751546650642.jpeg

Part way up I stopped for this photo, the road in the distance was the one I just descended!

1751546696616.jpeg

I continued up the climb enjoying the lovely smooth tarmac at this point!

1751546761832.jpeg

I stopped at the summit for this photo looking back down the hill I just climbed!

1751546796525.jpeg

I was now approaching the Carron Valley Reservoir, the road is very rough here for a mile or so but the views help!

1751546855318.jpeg

Back to the smooth roads again!

This little island has the biggest gull population in Scotland going by the racket they were making! 😂 Probably lots of young ones wanting fed...;)

1751547304514.jpeg

After passing the reservoir I enjoyed the new tarmac on the road to Carron Bridge!

1751547436881.jpeg

I continued east towards Denny and I was looking forward to a lovely 6 mile descent, I passed over the bridge over the river Carron and stopped for a couple of photos!

1751547732408.jpeg

1751547748618.jpeg

The descent down into Denny was just sublime, I was grinning from ear to ear all the way down!:D From Denny I headed south towards Bonnybridge and just as I arrived in the town I was greeted with road closed ahead signs, I decided to continue in the hope I could get through on the bike! Thankfully my luck was in, I had to use the footpath but it was clear of pedestrians! I headed up the climb to the bridge over the canal in the centre of town and stopped for a few photos!

It was time to turn west here into the wind and the clouds were starting to look a bit threatening, after a mile I took the back road up towards Falkirk which is a big climb but its well protected from the wind! I arrived in Falkirk and turned for home and the heavens opened up, at least I had managed 48 dry miles though! It had really closed in now and it looked like I would be getting soaked all the way home but as I was nearing Slamannan things looked a little brighter all of a sudden and sure enough the rain had stopped! In fact it was dry in Slamannan, like they didn't get the rain at all and it stayed dry all the way home! I actually thought about having lunch at home and heading back out but within a minute of arriving home I could feel rain in the air!

I had another look at the forecast and decided not to ride my luck and call it a day, I had my shower and lunch and looked out to see it had stopped raining and the roads were dry again! 😂Ah well I enjoyed my 64 miler depsite getting soaked for 5 miles or so, I'm now on 39931 miles so only 69 to go for 40000! I wasn't expecting to get out today at all so it was a nice bonus, I'm so glad I needed that wee at 5.45am...;)

Today, I had a few hours to ride, but not a lot since family is here for the holiday. I rode out to the Beachcomber, and took the long way around to get back to the rail trail, passing by a road that will be the target of my next excursion to Truro. The trail was busy but not overly so, as it was hot, 87 degrees F. This morning, I did a tune-up, swapped the saddle for one recommended by my fitter, swapped the stem for a 130mm -17 degree 3T, and removed the broken horn which has a warranty replacement coming. I felt OK at the start, but then decided to open it up when I could so that I could get back by cocktail hour. Priorities. 57 miles, 2:40, 1300ft, 160w AP. I stopped for a shot at Lecount Hollow Beach, which had a full parking lot.
