Uploading GPS Route to Mission Control

I “thought” that when I first started researching the Turbo Creo that I saw a video of someone (maybe in UK?) navigating a preloaded GPS route in Mission Control. Is this possible? I can’t find a way other than to run the “Ride with GPS” app and I’ve never tried to run it concurrently with MC. It would be great if one of these apps could be integrated with MC or if you could somehow upload a pre-planned route.

No idea how that would be done, but I do run RideWithGPS and MC at the same time on my Specialized rides, switching back and forth occasionally so I can watch the Rider and Motor Power numbers on MC but watch the map stuff or some of the other data fields (cadence, for example) on RWGPS. Too bad you can’t do both in one place, and the phone burns through battery on the Creo, which doesn’t have a charge connection to the bike battery. I just always have a small battery bank stick in the handlebar bag.

Phone is in a rock solid QuadLock on both bikes now.

That's why I changed to a Wahoo. The battery lasts up to 17 hours, the full connection with a Specialized e-bike is ensured, navigation and ride data in a single place, and the computer is mounted as properly as it can only be for a bike. And Strava, RWGPS and other app compability is fully supported. I now keep my smartphone in the back pocket of my jersey.

Stefan, can the Wahoo display the Rider and Motor power numbers from Mission Control? And the other issue I have is I hate to lose the smoothness of the maps, the human voice telling me when and where to turn instead of some random beep, and the ability to zoom out and see where I am and where my route has gone in a good birds eye view. Only the phones can do that, as far as I know. I hate the lousy processors in the bike computers for showing motion.

As you have described it Dave, smartphones are the ultimate displays. Only the battery life is short, the smartpnone takes a lot of precious space on the bars (unless it is mounted on or near to the stem), and the phone is vulnerable to rough terrain vibration and to crashes. Also, it is not possible to swap the smartphone pages (or go past the lock screen) in thick gloves. All these factors made me change to the button operated Wahoo (not Garmins such as 830 or 1030+) with the smartphone safely kept in the back pocket :)

Agreed on all of it. I have almost bought a Wahoo Roam about a hundred times, but I can‘t get past that damn choppy screen and the ease of zooming out on a RWGPS screen to see where the hell I really am - or even switching to Google maps if I feel like it. The battery life thing is horrible on the phone, couldn’t go more than a couple hours without a battery pack, but I’m not so worried about the mounting.

You could try split screen if you use an Android. Works OK on my Bosch bike, but some screens don't scale great and it chews through battery like there's no tomorrow.

mission control doesn't have navigation. it does cache maps offline, so maybe the video referred to someone caching the map while online and then riding offline? not sure what else it would be.

i use MC on every creo ride, and on rides where i don't know where i'm going i also use cadence or ridewithgps. no problems up to around 8 hours of riding, assuming non-constant map usage. mission control on the dashboard screen uses fairly little juice, at least on a modern iphone. black doesn't use power on an OLED display, it's not processing/displaying a map, making sounds, etc. if you want constant map display for more than 4 hours or so you definitely need either a battery for the phone, or a bike computer... but i've done 100+ mile rides with constant MC and intermittent RwGPS usage with no problems.

the only non-bike-computer option if you want a single app that receives your creo's power/cadence/speed data and has navigation on your iPhone is to use an external ANT to bluetooth converter (these are cheap and small, there's also one integrated into a heart rate strap) and then use any cycling app which has navigation and bluetooth sensor support, which is basically all of them.

that approach is not for everyone, it's a bit fussy. but i made a post about it here https://electricbikereview.com/foru...sion-control-and-bike-computers-tested.46983/

If this helps, Wahoo Bolt v2 is superior to the Roam (even if sacrificing the vertical LED bar). Better graphics, elevation data in maps, USB C. I expect a Roam v 2 release in some future, to make a more expensive bike computer with as good features as of Bolt v2.

A very helpful information! Sadly, installing Innerbarends on my two e-bikes (and I do love those grips!) ate the handlebars real estate to the level I had to resign from using the smartphone on the bars. And those rough terrain rides!

no problems up to around 8 hours of riding, assuming non-constant map usage.
Make it 5 hours with constant screen usage. When riding in thick gloves in the winter, the biggest issue I had was to get past the lock screen in case of locking the phone for less battery consumption.

I have done an Imperial Century with a smartphone on the bars but had to use a powerbank.

it depends a lot what’s on the screen - surprisingly so. i leave the screen on all the time for long rides, but mostly on the white-on-black dashboard with no maps. mostly i’m looking at power, heart rate, and average speed, so that suits me. i switch to maps only when lost 😂

i don’t have any problem waking mine up with face id, helmet doesn’t seem to matter!

Funnily enough, an inpensive POCO (Xiaomi) smartphone has far better battery life than a comparable Samsung!

Wear a balaclava then tell me :D Ah, So-Cal, yes? :D Mark, some of us experience winters!

A guy from Northern England had a swim in a pool in Sugar Land TX in January... :D (Reminds me of the Scot @RabH)
My friend and I visited my parents in Tucson one Christmas. We were swimming in the pool while the locals from Tucson, thought we were nuts. To them 70F (21C) was too cold. For us from Seattle, that was normal summer temperatures. But I have worn fleece in what SF considered summer - that fog can be brutle!

Necessary to mention the guy from North Yorkshire swam at 60 F :D
