Call it subjective but Martymac nails 3 outa 4 and then nails the Eagles (Greatest American band)So subjective. Easy to say Beatles, Stones, Zepplin, Queen, etc... But mine for personal impact and memorability are:
Eagles, CSNY, Rush, Nirvana
Led Zeppelin, Pink FLoyd, Beatles, Rolling Stones
We used to listen to DSOTM in high school and to this day, probably one of the greatest continuous story telling albums in the history of music. (Especially after a few beers)I saw Roger Waters last tour (Us & Them) and they played the entire Dark Side of The Moon album and more, was simply fantastic. The female operatic singers he had there were just unbelievable.
Aaaah, it all makes sense now. Stefan is a UK Punk! lol"The Music ain't any competitive sport".
The greatest rock bands are these you love to listen to. The Stranglers, Buzzcocks, The Damned, Sex Pistols if only four.
You guys are young whippersnappers! But Stefan is on to something. The Pistols, Ramones, et al were a huge part of the development of rock music. I cant believe you guys leave out one of the greatest rock bands of all time.Aaaah, it all makes sense now. Stefan is a UK Punk! lol
I had a Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Minor Threat period, but it didn't last like the others.![]()
It would be easy to name at least 15 great PUNK & New Wave bands. What made me attracted to The Stranglers was Jean-Jacques Burnel's bass. Poor Dave Greenfield the organ player who died of covid this year...lol, when I noticed the bass you're holding I also did notice the Buzzcocks shirt.
In my music catalogue I have a bit from that punk era, Pistols, Clash, Ramones,
You talking about Hendrix? I was never really a Hendrix fan so they never on my audio rotation list.
Same with The Doors, some worship them like crazy, ummm not me.
What is "the greatest" for you doesn't need to be the greatest for meYou guys are leaving out one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
I love all music but the topic is "Who are the 4 greatest rock bands of all time?)It would be easy to name at least 15 great PUNK & New Wave bands. What made me attracted to The Stranglers was Jean-Jacques Burnel's bass. Poor Dave Greenfield the organ player who died of covid this year...
Of American bands of the genre (specifically of New Wave), I'm particular to Patti Smith, The Modern Lovers, Devo, B-52s, Television, not forgetting the pioneers such as Velvet Underground or The Stooges. Ramones were an important band but they became a pop band too early
Punk & New Wave reached a few in Poland in 1978. It was still the UK punk-rock era. I was lucky to be among the earliest punk-rockers of Warsaw at those times. Generation X song "One Hundred Punks" is universal to explain the sentiments of some young people then.
"96 Teardrops" was the song of Question Mark & The Mysterians.
I was lucky enough to have seen The Who 4 times live, Stones once, McCartney live once
Had plans to go see Steely Dan but Walter Beckers passing in 2017 put SD's tour on hold for a year or so. I think Donald Fagen and band started touring again just last year
The Cant buy a Thrill Album is to this day probably in my top 3 8 tracks! Is there gas in the car . . is there gas in the car !!!!
lol, Fagen sure has some of the funniest or should I saw, genius lyrics ever written for any song.
