What happens when you reach 20mph?

When I reach 20 mph, it Just stops assisting. No other problems. It accelerates nicely but quits at 20. It’s as if it’s set up as a class 1 e bike.
I thought that might be it and just had been mis-configured but the shop guys were stumped. They will consult with specialized on Monday. Probably a firmware issue. Who knows, but really disappointing.
I still rode over 35 miles on it today however. Nice!

Our market in Europe is different from the US market. Vado 4.0 has never been available here as a 28 mph e-bike as far as I know. If you want 28mph in Sweden you would have to get Vado 6.0. In 2018 both 5.0 and 6.0 were speed pedelecs going 45km/h (28mph)
It sure sounds to me as it has been set up as a class 1 e-bike. Can you order a Vado 4.0 as either a class 1 or class 3?

That wasn’t an option I was presented with. And I don’t think it was that kind of a mistake, but it sure feels like it might have been.
Tell me, if I was to purchase a Vado 4 in Canada, it would be class 1, yes? It configured as class 1, can it be reconfigured as class 3 or is it locked in somehow?

The description of the Vados and Comos has changed a bit on specialized.com sometime during the last months. There is no mentioning the 28mph. No talk about speed limit or restriction.
In Court’s reviews of Vados and Comos late April to late May the top speed is said to be 28mph in the specification tables but I can’t find anything about top speed on specialized.com.
Do all dealers get different or more information to give to buyers? I know the e.g. the Specialized Concept store where I bought my 5.0 had different information than what we find on the web page. The model I bought here in Sweden isn’t on the Specialized Swedish site.
The difference between website info and reality is of course not unique to Specialized.

The top pedal assist speed seems to be right around 28 mph now that it’s been properly configured. Turns out that was simply it needed the correct firmware installation.
This week I’ve ridden it to work twice now and this morning I averaged about 21 mph and made it to work in 22 minutes riding time. (8 miles). I made it through most of the key intersections with green lights so my timing was good.
I was pedaling hard to keep my average speed and to make the lights and so when I arrived at work I was a little sweaty but not uncomfortable and making the greens was just exhilarating.
I rolled my bike into the underground bike box area, parked the Vado safely in a lock box and was at my desk about 25 minutes after I left my house
I’m lucky to have such a nice direct bike route to work and a safe place to store it.
The reverse commute is even nicer because I can take my time and ride through a state park at my leisure and turn off the assist to get a that healthy workout burn.
The best thing about it is that I can avoid the car commute madness and most importantly feel like now my commute time is quality time.

Good to hear your bike is now the way you want it. ( have you found a solution for your Ortlieb bags? )
Great to be able to commute by e-bike and have a safe place to park it.
I do however believe (but I don’t know for sure
) that Specialized thinks that your 20mph Vado 4.0 was delivered the ”correct” firmware. But again, good to hear you got it changed.I understand you were a little sweaty racing the green lights and as the 4.0 probably has a 40 tooth crank wheel you will have to pedal with a relatively high cadence most of the time to go 25mph.
