ZERO making an electric bicycle?

I agree with this sentiment, and by the same logic I think of Tesla as a battery company as well. We will be making an ebike with the Bafang motor and the NTS Works battery technology. Hopefully I'll have more to share soon!

Hong
Hong,

Please consider this use case because I believe the Bafang BBS02 or BBS03 can provide a solution for my situation. I cannot find a major USA eBike vendor that provides a solution. I have tried to import German bikes, but to no avail.

Thank You,
Mike

Hi Mike,

The BBS motor is a good choice for your intended use case. For steep or sustained climbing we do like to pair it with the NuVinci rear hub. Fallbrook are coming out with a new IGH for electric bikes this year, but for now they suggest we only use it with the 250w motors. We have tested it with the 500w, but that's not recommended or covered by warranty. Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Hong
p.s. I've imported a German ebike, but we are going to build these for American cities and riders.

Any possibility of a Rohloff hub, as an option? Hi-Powered Cycles reports success with Rohloff 14 Speed hubs on powerful bikes. I would not be concerned about warranty issues with a Rohloff.

Hong, does NTS look like they are trying to sell their company or their design? The website seems to say so.

NTS slashed the prices of their bikes, and their rebuildable battery and all their bikes are
out of stock..

I've heard good things about the Rohloff, but we haven't tested them. We did *not* get good results with other IGH, except for the NuVinci. Of course you will be able to build up the bike anyway you'd like.

The main consideration is that the hub, brakes and any other details are compatible or standardized.

I forget the issue I ran into with Rohloff with some other bike. I think their brakes need special adapters or the OLD must be a certain size.

Thanks for all the great questions Mike! Let's be clear on two things:

1) This is *not* a Zero eBike. We are a new startup called Karmic Bikes. It would be great to have our own forum, I'm not sure how that would happen.
2) I worked for a guy, who worked for Steve Jobs. I'm not Steve Jobs. :)

I'm hoping we'll have more to share, and I can post more links to what we're doing when there is a Karmic Bikes forum.

Cheers,
Hong

Best way to get a forum started is to let Court test one of your bikes.. Just make sure it's test ready!

I emailed Zero. According to Zero, they have NO plans to introduce an eBike .

Hi Mike,

We are not making an electric bicycle, I'm sorry for the news. We produce all electric motorcycles to clarify.

Best regards,
