So I was riding my Vado on the trail yesterday, headlight was on... and when I passed a group of people walking, one of them said, your light is bright.

I couldn't figure out if she meant "too bright, turn it off" or "nice and bright, I like it". I didn't turn around to ask...

What do you guys do when someone says, your light is bright?

Have you ever had a concern about a bright vehicle headlight on the oppsite side of the road? That's probably what she meant!

I've crossed paths with many a moron with extremely bright flashing lights shining at eye level.
Not saying that's you... but be aware the issue is common.

Your light did its job, but yes, it can be aimed the wrong way. Put yourself in her shoes, stand up your bike and leave the light on. Start walking towards it from about 50 feet away and notice your light angle.

I had it aligned directly for the eyeballs! ha... So here in the first pic it's pointed at the eyeballs...

In the second picture, I moved it down a bit!

I ride with a group of seniors and most have ebikes with built-in front lights.
Some are aimed properly (they're visible to oncoming traffic, but don't blind others), while one of the riders has his pointed to the sky and a couple of riders have their lights pointed to their front fenders. 😆
A number of the group members ride Vados and most don't have their lights attached securely. The problem is the screw/bolt to tighten the front light support to the fender is accessed from under the fender, so the front wheel has to be taken off to tighten the light support arm.

StVzo lights won't shine in someone's face IF it's adjusted correctly. Just like our cage headlights.

"StVZO bike lights are designed to conform to German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations, with a beam shaped to avoid dazzling other road users, but the safety standard may have benefits elsewhere in the world, too.

StVZO-compliant bike lights differ from other lights on the market in that they have a cut-off, which keeps the beam focused directly on the road ahead and, in theory, out of the eyes of other road users when cycling at night.

The specially designed lens is shaped in such a way as to direct the beam well below the eyeline of oncoming motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. This, in theory, makes the roads safer for everyone."

So I should ride in the daytime with my light turned off?
I ride with StVzo headlamp on when in traffic, but not on the shared path. But if adjusted properly it could be helpful on paths as well. Here about half the walkers, it's a college town, have their mugs in an iPhone. NUTS!
