Yamaha Leaving US Market

Yamaha motors famously are easily serviced and last for years. Just ask Rab.

Plus - and what’s extra weird - is Yamaha just made a big deal out of their 30 year anniversary of being in the e bike game. Be very odd if they kill the entire e bike business world wide right now.

I don’t get all the Bosch shite in this tread. This is about Yamaha, not a pile on about random Bosch parts!

Reading that letter, it's just the US. You know, that small, backwater market with only 360 million people!

Which is the shame of it all, cause the Euro market is dominated by Bosch. And they get favorable press there, what with E-Mountain Bike Magazine's favoritism towards Bosch.

@DaveMatthews: They do a good enough job protecting their profit margins. Haven't heard any of them going out of business; have you? If anything, their state subsidiary will either pin those losses on all of the insuree's in that state....... or they may just elect not to underwrite insurance in that state.....

Another consideration besides the terrible US economy (right, @il Munduato? LOL; you are excluded and immune from this state of reality as things seem peachy keen on your side of the fence) is this: Maybe the great majority of potential ebike buyers have spoken and they don't want to spend 5-6 grand plus for a......bicycle. Thus, the popularity of the cheaper China bikes, especially the ones with a throttle. Maybe, just maybe the market is over saturated with high end ebikes...... and the buyers of those bikes!

Regardless, I'm surprised that a very conservative motor company like Yamaha bailed out of one of the world's largest and most loyal economies, so quickly.

Methinks Yamaha pulled the plug a bit too early on their ebike front.

Probably the only true thing in this post. :p Establishing themselves as a legit ebike manufacturer with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic dealer network was always a long term project. I think they invested massively in it and then decided that it was too difficult/unprofitable and bailed early.

Its worth noting that nothing seems to indicate they will stop being an ebike motor/system OEM. Just that they are backing out of selling Yamaha branded ebikes through Yamaha dealers. Giant is one of the largest bike brands in the US and they primarily use Yamaha motor systems.

They're also not coming through with their promotion deal to give a free battery when you register a recently purchased ebike within a given time frame.
