Would You Stop The Thieves?

Two lies and and a truth.... I would even tell them I have the police on the phone, they are on camera, and the ebike has a hidden GPS tracker.

Are there real or fake warning stickers for (e)bikes warning about hidden GPS trackers? Kinda like having the ADT security sign outside your house or a Lo-Jack GPS locator sticker on your vehicle in the USA.

I would wait until they cut the bike free... Then sucker punched him and take the bike myself 🙃

It appears there are brazen thieves in every country. A couple of years ago, I posted a YouTube video taken in NYC of a group of thieves in a stolen panel truck. They cut the stanchions of a bike rack with a gas powered saw and stole 6 bikes, all still locked to the rack. the whole thing took less than 5 minutes. All this was done in plain sight of at least a dozen witnesses. Many took pics & video but no one intervened.

When multiple thieves are involved, a single individual stands little chance of preventing the theft and would risk personal injury. IMO, Recording as much information as possible and notifying law enforcement is the best approach.

There have been incidents however, where a group of citizens banded together to confront and restrain a thief until the police arrive. I wouldn't hesitate to join such a group.

I have always instilled it in all three of my Autistic sons, now 30, 29 and 32, NEVER EVER get involved, material things can be replaced, call the Police, if YOU are mugged hand it over and run

Modern thieves are extra bold nowadays. My sister used to live in Washington D.C. in the 90's and I would see bikes getting stolen in broad daylight on a regular basis. Luckily, locks have improved to slow down angle grinders and bolt cutters. London is a high crime area and your bike security better be the latest and greatest, and insured.

If I had it my way I'd pack some explosives in the seat and have the bike seat explode after leaving its geo-fenced perimeter, blowing the culprits gonads into oblivion.

Would this apply?

If it's my bike thieves try to steal he'll yeah I would. Report will be bloody mess, ebike owner pistol whipped thieves for attempting to steal his bike.

This has to have been staged: there’s no world in which thieves would blissfully ignore someone recording them from a few feet away in broad daylight … If it was from across the street with a telephoto lens, ok; if it was dark and they couldn’t clearly tell they were being recorded because it was done surreptitiously, maybe. But this, with a phone being pointed at them at eye level in the middle of the day? C’mon…

I assume, like far too many things these days, this was done to drive up their social media hits.

My bikes are so unique that they couldn't be easily resold by a thief. Around here bike thieves want fast money for drugs. They would still probably call me the next day to buy a charger. I would say, 'Sure, just send me a photo so I know which one.'

Brazen theft is an epidemic in London especially.
The police will not chase or investigate unless it becomes part of organised gangs.
London is passing though it's gangs of New York phase as immigrants stake their claims.
But of course the vast majority of it is incredibly safe, people being friendly, polite and not mugging or stealing doesn't make the news

San Francisco is really bad. I see three factors, huge disparities in wealth, a drug use pandemic leading to mass homelessness and desperation, and liberal views on crime and punishment. Threating someone who lives on a piece of cardboard with jail only means three hots, a cot, relative safety, and showers.

EBike thefts don't happen often here. Thieves are organized they steal ebikes from dealers or containers with ebikes will disappear never reach their destination.
Mopeds are stolen every day my nephew a police officer here in District 3 where I live says moped thefts are reported everyday.
I only use a simple lock on my bike a caliper lock that locks one rotor. My bike can be easily lifted onto a pickup truck by a fit person if they wanted it bad.
Touch wood no body has attempted it.
