will Stromer ST2 rumored increased battery fit into Stromer ST1 ? (discuss)

vested interest - I'm heavy and I want my new Stromer to have the greatest range possible. Speed above 20mph is a secondary wish.

If Stromer continues to put the battery in the frame (which would be a smart design move) than it would depend on the size and shape of the battery in the ST2.
I'd be surprised if it worked to be honest, not just fit but for compatibility as well.

I think from a business standpoint it would make sense if a battery with increased range worked with older models. If they plan on moving the new bike into a higher price point, surely they will understand that some people will be priced out. Why not offer a strong battery that's compatible, it's a good way to squeeze extra dollars out of current early adapters.

I think from a consumer standpoint it would be nice if they kept it compatible. I don't think though it makes much sense from a business standpoint. Apple certainly doesn't follow that business model! Maybe from one generation to the next have some compatibility but not much past that I doubt

Apple is a good example James... They started out with FireWire and then moved to the Thunderbolt standard... and even with the iPhones having the larger power adapter and now the smaller one. Some of these changes have got to be the result of the need for smaller ports that are more compatible with thinner and thinner notebooks and circuit boards but ebikes have a lot of the same constraints (be lighter, be less intrusive) so I think we probably will see similar trends.

It is nice however, to see standards like USB, USB2 and USB3 that are backwards compatible with computers. Now if you look at the new EnergyBus magnetic charging port standard on ebikes we could be seeing the same thing. I hope it's smart enough to someday work with monitors, wireless controls and other stuff that might come out. It's a piece of technology that's neat to see on bikes like the Specialized Turbo and A2B Alva.

The ST2 will be a different model line and won't replace the ST1, so I don't expect that they come up with the same components.

The ST2 has larger battery and the door is on the left hand side to accommodate its larger size (hence greater range).

Now the best part - touch screen on the top tube. It acts like an equalizer. You can adjust power/range ratio on the go, plus quite a few really cool things. The introduction of ST2 is like the first Iphone. People will have to have it no matter what.

As you probably know now, the ST2 is 48v and the battery looks to have a completely different shape, so it is not backwards compatible.

You could buy at 36v 14ah battery and just carry the 2nd battery if you need it... well that's what im thinking of doing
