VADO 5.0 2022 and later Model Question

I have a very early 2022 Specialized Vado 4.0 and I am approaching 10k miles on it. I love the bike but little things are starting to go wrong with it (rear light going out, MCU replacement) so I am considering purchasing a new 5.0.

However I am wondering why the specifications are different between these two bikes.

For those in the know which one would you choose and why?

Thanks in advance.

The first one is an older model without the suspension seat-post. It is based on a SRAM groupset. The battery is not UL certified.
The second one has a suspension seat-post, the latest Shimano CUES groupset and the battery is UL certified.

The choice of the second model is a no-brainer :)

There is, however, a small detail. The older model has a 40 T chainring while the newer one is 48T. The older model is a better climber if no modification is being made. The newer model is designed for fast commutes in a flat area. The chainring can be always replaced, though.

Thanks so much Stefan you are a wealth of information!

Just ordered a Satin Seafoam 5.0! My old battery only has 170 cycles on it so I am looking forward to some century rides now that I can swap out the batteries mid ride!

Love that color! Saw it in person at the local Specialized store. Enjoy!

FWIW, I have a 2015 Bosch powered FeltElecrtric. It comes with a 400wh battery.

At around 3,000 hours, I had the battery rebuilt by Hi-C company of Denver. Because batteries have become smaller, they were able to pack enough additonal Batteries, which bumped it up to 500 wh.

You can verify this at [email protected]. That was done in 2021, and I think I paid $500 to have it done.

I recommend it, as Bosch vendors charge up to $6-700 for jusf the 400 Powerpak batteries.

Reported as a spammer. This is a Specialized thread that has nothing to do with Bosch. Nobody asked you @Greg Harm about your irrelevant information.

Dear God:
Why so lippy, young man? I’m a 71 year old geezer and have been riding my pedalelectric for 11 years.

I own a 2018 Vado 4.0, because my original bike was a class 2 & not fast enough.

As I read the discussion, it was about batteries, and dealing with aging batteries.

My implication was that if a Specialized battery owner wanted AN ALTERNATIVE to paying full retail price for a battery, said owner could do so and save a lot of money in the process.

A new—or rebuilt battery is always going to cost less than a brand new Specialized Turbo of any model.

I wasn’t spamming anything.

Are you the moderator (God) of this forum—or just a dick?

I never asked for your arrogant and childish tantrum, either.

Sod off and go pound some sand.

Wrong. The discussion was solely about the difference between an older and a newer model of Vado 5.0. Nothing else.
You have probably posted in a wrong thread. I ask you to read the first 11 posts then delete your own and apologise.

Batteries were mentioned several times.

You didn’t inform our fellow users batteries could be rebuilt—as you were probably unaware of that option.

If anyone owes an apology—it is you for being so absolutely aggresive and f’ing rude.

Re read the above: the word “battery” appears at least 5 times before I added my constructive comment, about saving money on eBike batteries.

Piss off, Mate.

As a boomer I can spot one being a fool. Don't feed the trolls just report!

I am not a troll. Stephan accused me of being a spam robot, and anyone of any intelligence can discern my inteded constructive comment was meant to let our members know, you don’t have to spend $5-10 Grand to buy a new bike, if a new battery was needed.

This fact is applicable to Specialized Bikes as well as generally every e-Bike

STEPHAN threw the first stone here, not I. What a pedantic adolescent.
