I'm curious about the genesis and backstory of your username here.

Some are obvious, such as @Jeremy McCreary or @Stefan Mikes. Others such as @PedalUma are an awesome play on words of the hometown, (have some eggs and Lagunitas, why don't we?).

But others....

As for me, I posted in my introduction thread, my username is simply the name of my bike.

You have to watch the movie Mallrats to get mine :)

Been using it since the early PC gaming days when I discovered I needed a gamer tag

I don't think mine is all that interesting or mysterious, but I'll say this much: I used a couple of different names early on that were fun misspellings or unpronounceable mish-mashes of my real name.

As I began participating in group rides and other events IRL where I was meeting other riders and product managers face-to-face, it felt stupid being known as "nay-ster" or "fa-nay-tic" or any of the mispronunciations that could stem from my chosen spellings.

So I decided it would be prudent to have my screen name reflect my real name so there was a smooth transition from online to real life conversations.

By that point I had established myself as a bit of a gear hub afficionado, and it was still the salad days for the rare and somewhat newfangled Rohloff Speedhub. Their North American rep was located near me in Berkeley and later in Oakland, so I had a good source of first-hand reliable information to share. I didn't want to represent myself as officially connected with Rohloff, so I chose a misspelled version of "Speedhub" which was probably also dumb because I'm not a particularly fast rider.

Maybe instead I should have chosen "Roll-Off Nate."

We all know that I named your ebike,.. 😁

I only use this username on this forum. I explained it in my intro thread, but here goes. I was a road bike racer, starting in the early 1980's, and I retired in 2015. Although I rode one day and stage races, most of the races I did, and the only kind of races that I won, were criteriums, a very fast timed race around a very short course. All riders start with one foot down. In order to be near the front after the start, you need to get clipped in quickly, and go into a full tilt sprint until the front settles down. Stomp and Go.

Yep I also invented my user name just for EBR. Rás Cnoic; Irish for hill racer. Though 'slow out of breath hill wobbler' is probably what I should have called myself. But my username has evolved over time, now with the added sub title The Apostle, bestowed on me (lovingly) by another member. It's genius!

It also inspired me to finally get a profile pic.

Aspal or An tAspal would be even better! :)

Mine is a computer generated user ID, based on name and social security number. It was assigned to me when I worked for the old Bell System and used to log on to a mainframe computer. The company all but had it tattooed on every employees a$$. Sort of like name, rank & serial# used by the military.
It's one of those things you used so often, it is ingrained into your memory and will never forget.

Along with names are avatars. Mine was made from paper and photographed on the back of a denim shirt. It is the PedalUma, pet-a-llama. He has saffron robes like that other Lama guy.
