Two questions re: Bosch 625wh powertube batteries

I've got a bike with a 500wh powertube battery (a Gazelle Cityzen T10 Speed). The new announcement from Bosch that they'll finally have higher capacity batteries is exciting, but will the new 625wh powertube battery actually FIT in my bike?

Also, it seems that it's way more expensive to buy replacement batteries in the US (even the 500wh ones). I travel to Europe fairly regularly for work (esp to Switzerland). If I were to buy a battery in the EU in Euros, would there be issues transporting it back to the US on a standard international flight? I would put it in my carry on.

Thanks all!

No it won't. The new powetube is longer and heavier.

Unfortunately, you can't. The limit for carrying batteries as carry-on is 100whrs and yours will be 500whrs. So, no.

Thanks Ravi. Dang, doubly bad news! :) If I were to check the battery instead of carrying it on with me, would that be kosher?

No batteries are only allowed as carry on. Checking it would be against the law. The thought is if one were to catch fire, they can get to it and put out the flames. If it's in the cargo bay, nobody knows until it's too late.
Never check lithium batteries.

Got it - makes sense. So we're left paying the several-hundred-dollar premium. That's frustrating, but so it goes...
