true bike security.

cant get much better then this. I can see someone riding off with the bike and the shopping cart.

A Safeway I used to frequent was devoid of any racks to lock a bike up. I would always chain up through the long line of extra shopping carts along the front of the store.

It actually seems pretty secure to me, but also subject to getting into an issue with store management or patrons if there's anything like a shortage of carts available.

I just got a ridiculously heavy Oxford Products OF163 Chain Lock. It's made for motorcycles. I use a smaller cable lock to secure the front tire to the frame. It does take up a fair amount of room in the bike basket and I can actually feel the weight of it. A lock picker on YouTube didn't have much trouble picking this lock, but it will thwart the average bike thief. I am going to research the GPS trackers. I was a recent robbery victim--a suitcase filled with several hundred dollars with of things--so security is high on my radar.

As a Locksmith I can tell you the best defense is a GPS tracker. No lock out there can't be defeated by a cordless grinder in 30 seconds.
Ah, finally someone with common sense. Although some locks, take somewhat a little more than 30 seconds,
I believe no lock made could last more than 90 seconds, in a recent video I watched on this topic, No lock !

what should we look for in GPS trackers?

Although I don't have one yet....I will be going with something that has a long battery life...can be concealed in seat down tube or handlebars....an motion alert capability through the app to your phone....a geo fence if your bike moves outside the parameters you set to trigger an audible alarm. Might make the thief abandon it...

If someone wants that bike that's shackled to the cart, they'll just ride off on it, cart and all. They may even throw their groceries in it too. Or cut the softish metal on the cart where the bike locks goes through in a Nu Yawk Minute.

There is no bike security, there's only better or worse security. I always park in an area like a grocery store or something that has people going in and out. Yes, those places are getting harder and harder to find, but if they close the grocery stores we will have bigger issues than having our bike stolen.

And I agree 100% w/ the locksmith, there isn't a lock made that a power grinder can't cut off in 30 seconds. I've seen it done. I would think a GPS device tracker could be easily defeated too.
