I think I have it narrowed down to these two hardtail MB's. I really like the look of the Powerfly 4, especially in orange, but the reliability and 3 yr warranty on the Yamaha has its appeal. The Yamaha will also be about $400 less because the dealer is offering a discount and my local Trek store holds to full suggested retail ($3,699). Has anybody riden both and can provide some feedback? Any other bikes I should consider. I really have a strong preference for a bike I can buy locally with support and service if needed. Thanks!

I have not ridden either bike. But the difference is more than just $400, because the Yamaha has an air fork vs. the coil fork on the Trek. The Yamaha has a step up in other components as well, with Shimano SLX 11 speed vs. Deore 10 speed, Shimano brakes vs. Tektro, and centerlock rotors vs. 6-bolt. The advantages of the Trek are a sexier looking bike (subjective), 46T low gear vs. 42T, boost rear spacing (148mm) vs. 142mm., and 203mm brake rotors vs. 180mm on the Yamaha.
Are you only interested on a hardtail? For the same money as the Trek, the Giant Stance E+ 2 is comparably equipped but full suspension. The one minor drawback is a traditional quick release on the rear wheel.

I HAD and STILL have an Orange TREK PF4 CX GEN4 635Wh battery and a few nice extras in my buying window, VERY VERY sexy looking bike IMHO.
BUT A FOCUS JARIFA 6.7 NINE dropped into my lap at a very silly price as the owner had broken his leg.
I also looked at and rode a TREK PF4 with the Gen 2 motor and the visible 500Wh battery, both nice bikes and if I can persuade SWMBO to take the FOCUS as her bike I will go purchase the Orange TREK PF4 GEN 4 with the 625Wh battery Am I worried about riding it with NO POWER not at all as I really can't see that happening nor the logic in wanting to do that....IF I need to go cycling without power assistance I have my 40YO Cannondale MTB for that.
I love my FOCUS and yes it is heavy BUT boy does it go downhill FAST I am NOT a Mountain Biker, riding mostly on hilly bike trails and canal banks and my only issue is that being an E-MTB it is geared low for serious Mountain biking and climbing so not overly wonderful for fast smooth track or fast road riding as you quickly spin out, and YOU cannot change the gear ratios NOR even the tyres to a smaller profile smoother running tyre without having your GEN4 DU reprogrammed {well that is the official line :-( }
