Trek Allant+ 8s stays in Blinking mode

Hi Folks,

It's been a while since I've posted here. I still have my Trek Allant+ 8S ebike with the Bosch smartphone hub. I use it for commuting. Last week I had it serviced and the dealer updated the firmware. I have been using it to commute to work and the headlight was working fine. I can turn the light on/off by holding the + button.

This afternoon, I charged the bicycle in my garage. When the charging was complete (actually 85% full) I went into the garage and unplugged the charger. This turned on the bicycle and the headlight was on. However, the headlight was now blinking instead of staying on in steady state.

I read about how supposedly there is a light sensor in the tail light which can switch the system to blink mode. so i turned out all of the lights in the garage (it was very dark) and shut down the bicycle and turned it back on and the light stayed in blinking mode.

I tried turning the light off and then back on, and each time i do this it returns to blinking mode, even though it's in the dark.

This is a problem since I rely on this headlight for commuting (I leave for work very early before sunrise).

Any suggestions on how to get this back to steady mode? Again, I have the bike in the dark right now. I'm not sure what trigger it to go into blink mode. It was pretty cloudy and overcast today when i rode home and then the bike sat in my dark garage before i turned it back on after charging it.

Thanks in advance.

Does it have the Performance Speed or Performance CX? Do you pair it to your phone with the Flow app or E-Bike Connect?

the light is supposed to blink the the bright light and steady in the dim light. but I have found it blinking in the basement of my shop. but you can make it go back to steady by turning on the high beam and back again.

Hi Folks,

I think I have figured out what's going on with my bike. There definitely must be some kind of light sensor built in. But the trick is, for my bike, that if you want to switch it out of blinking mode, the system has to be on and in the dark for several minutes. It must take some average light reading over time to determine which mode to be in (blinking or steady state).

On my morning commute today, the light was still blinking, even though it was pitch black outside. I used a separate LED light clamped onto my handlebars to have a steady state light to navigate by.

After about 1.5 or 2 miles, I turned off the Trek built-in light because I wanted to see where exactly the clamp on light was pointing. After I adjusted the clamp on light and turned the Trek built-in light back on, the Trek light was automatically in steady mode.

When I was testing the system last night, I guess I didn't leave the system on long enough and in the dark long enough for it to switch to steady mode.

Anyway, thanks for the replies. I think that is what is happening with my Allant+ 8s.

Again, I had the firmware updated last week (4/27/26). I don't know what the firmware number is but I assume it's the most recent available for this bike.
