Trek Allant+8S problems

1. The compass on the COBI. Bike app is off by 90degrees. A friend has the same bike. Same problem. On other threads others have the same problem. When I turn the phone on the compass is perfect. I walk it to my starting g point. Compass perfect. As soon as I start to pedal it shifts 90 degrees clockwise.
2. my lights do not blink. My friends bike -same bike does. Can I get mine to blink.
3. shutting off the bike takes forever. I lift up my phone and touch it and it says it’s shutoff. It doesn’t. I push the little button on the display. A symbol come up but the lights stay on. I hold the button. After many tries I get it to go off. But I have to stand by the bike because sometimes it comes back on. And I go thru everything again.
I am 2hours away from where I bought the bike. And I don’t believe they can solve all of these problems.
other than these little things the bike is great

1) I believe this is a known bug with COBI & iPhones.
2) Seems to me there was a recent discussion where a couple Allant owners had the same issue and having the dealer replace the light fixed it.
3) whoever designed COBI thought they were streamlining the experience, but yeah they made it harder to just turn your bike on and off. I believe the bike shuts off after a minute or two if you walk away. If you stay next to it with COBI running it will want to stay on.

I'm still working it out myself, but I think after you remove the phone and finish the tour in COBI you have to exit the app then hit the power button on the SPH to get it to turn off right away.

back before the kiox was released I was wanting this and it was late getting released. glad I did not get stuck with it.

They can't fix the light to be sure. I have the same cute little cube shaped light with the orange side windows up front and the little blinking red in the rear where the light sensor that makes the front light blink is located. Mine will only go in blink mode with direct sun shining on the rear light. Turn right or left more that 25 degree or so and it stops blinking. And it has to be direct sunlight. A bright cloudy day and it does not blink. Supposedly Trek corporate was looking for a fix but I have not heard back for almost a year in spite of two emails asking for status updates. Not high on their list, I guess.

Truth be told, I don't miss the headlight as it burns way hotter to the touch than any other LED bike light I have experienced. It also goobles up about 10% of the battery power on a two hour ride. I rarely ride in the dark and I have a very cool separate Knog PWR Trail1000 lumen headlight that has 5000mAh battery than can recharge a phone and has programable blink mode and power levels for solid on choices.

Knog PWR TRAIL BIKE LIGHT / 1000Lumens /5000mAh / 22.2mm 31.8mm

For a tail light I use the Cliq that connect to a smart phone with a great app that enables an alarm mode that detects motion, sounds an alarm and gives you instant notification of potential tampering or theft through the app, up to 100 feet away.

Both these light are pretty unobtrusive and offer useful added functionality and allocate all my electrons just for moving the bike.

I can't offer any help on the smartphone hub issues. I put a Bosch Nyon on my bike right away as I do not like using my phone as the display/control for my bike. I have discussed my reasoning on this in other thread on this forum

Thank you. I texted my bike shop and they asked me to call. So I’m going at it from both ends.
I think I have tried your method to shut it off but To be sure I’m going out and try it following your instructions.
I eould think the compass problem would be an easy fix as I can duplicate it every time.

I cannot turn my lights off. The software is set so they must stay on. I just talked to the shop. He said the rear light should blink. Never did. On my buddies bike the front and rear both blink. Same bike. Crazy.

Once the bike is hooked up to the Bosch diagnostic software system, one of the selections on the shop's scree will be to enable the lights on/off switch on the bikes display unit. It can be set always on or the switch can be enabled. This is a standard, not OEM, specific setting they will be able to access in the shop.

The light system on the 8S and the 9.9S are nice when they work, compact and visible but they are clearly not ready for prime time. It is my one disappointment on this otherwise superb bike.

I followed your instructions and it shut off. The key seemed to be closing the app by swiping up on the iPhone. I was placing the iPhone upright, hold my finger like instructed, but not closing the app .

Wait until you start to do route planning and saving your rides. Lots of un- and poorly documented things. Cobi.bike only does point to point routing and does not give you much flexibility. It seems to be designed for someone going to the store. To plan a loop ride, you must use Komoot, a separate app. Set up properly, cobi.bike will connect to komoot and let you choose from your preplanned routes. Komoot doesn't have the best routing tool IMHO, so I plan my routes using ride-with-gps, save the route to my computer, then uplolad that to komoot. It's faster than it sounds. To save a route you rode, you'd think you'd use Komoot, but you don't. You save to Strava, so you'll need a Strava account and the app on your phone.

Finally, you don't need a cell connection with your phone, I use an older one without a SIM card, and do my up- and down-loading via wifi. This way, if the phone flies off the mount, I haven't lost much.

My dealer showed me how to switch the lights off if i dont need them.

Hold the +button(i think) for a few seconds or use the phone app.
If it doesn't show on the phone app, your dealer didn't enable it.
It is in the book that came with the bike
Correct. Hold the + for 2 seconds to turn the light on or off. If that doesn't work then the dealer has to change the setting as previously mentioned. I tend to ignore the light switch in the phone app since you can't get to it while you're moving.

More compass error info:
I thought the 90 degree clockwise shift happened after I started to pedal and reached about 10 mph.
Today, I put the home on the bike everything was set. I walked the bike through my yard in 3 different directions, compass perfect. I walked the bike up a hill. At the top of the hill I got on the bike. I never touched the pedals. As I hit approximately 10mph the compass went off course by 90 degrees. So pedaling has nothing to do with getting the compass off course. I assumed the motor kicking in caused the problem.
I'm not sure what is in the logic that tell the compass to advance 90 degrees clockwise once the bike hits 10 mph.

Hmm double posted.
I will see if mine does that when I actually get out for a ride.
