I intend to mount it on 1 inch plywood so it will be removable.

I’m using 3/8” plywood to hold some components of my “system”. I’ve cut the plywood in such as way that the “tabs” fit into indentations in the bed walls just forward of the wheel wells to (hopefully) reduce movement.

So I’ve put together for my inside-the-bed-under-the-topper system for longer trips where security and weather resistance are key. 2 topper locks and a tailgate lock along with cable locks for both bikes should hopefully slow thieves down a little bit. The ramp may or may not be necessary.

It’s an ’03 Silverado. Yes, it’s an older (‘11 maybe) Jason high top bought specifically for this project.

Jealous of you guys with the 6.5 foot beds. I have a short 5 foot bed on my truck. Great for getting around in the city, and a solid 25mpg highway, but a project like yours is nigh impossible on a short bed.

How is it climbing inside your topper to get the bike secured?

Ideally, with a bit of practice I won’t need to climb in at all. The blue strap really isn’t a requirement. That said, when I use the ramp it’s very easy. And because it’s such a tall topper I have plenty of room just bent over at the waist. I also bought a bed mat that makes crawling in it much easier on the knees.

Thanks to everyone for all the helpful feedback! Here's what I've come up with and it is rock solid. It's pretty similar to Dallant's setup, (minus the added aluminum extension blocks) and I use the same folding ramps which I already had for loading other stuff.

Looks great! Only reason I used the blocks was to extend it out so the handlebars would fit in the high-rise topper. It’s still very solid and if (and that’s a big if) I ever want to use those mounts with the topper off, I can easily remove them.

BTW, I was able to get the Allant in (without climbing in!) and all secured easily the other day even though I had a flat rear tire. Didn’t use the strap and it was still very solid.
