Touch up paint for chips

I installed a seat post bike rack to my bike but the supporting arms chipped the paint. It is a haibike matte black finish, the chips are all the way to the metal, 2-3 mm in diameter. They were not visible until I took out the rack (it was too high since the bicycle is a high step one).

Now I am putting paint protection film on the spots that are susceptible to chipping. Before doing that though I like to touch it up so my question is anyone know a good black touch up paint for matte black used by haibikes?


On a side note I was very disappointed by the seatpost mounted rack, it was of decent quality yet sat too high, scratched the bike easily and very inconvenient in case you need to adjust the seat post. You might try an automotive parts store. Some of the performance cars like the Charger have a matte black finish on certain parts. Did a Google search and it's called Dodge Jet Black matte. No idea if it's a match, but take the bike into the store and see what it looks like compared to the color chart. Even close is better than raw metal.

I like the touch-up pen because you just have to shake to mix and dab the tip on the scratch/nick. The Black Pen I use is more in the gloss range than flat/matte (pedals/cranks gloss while the bike frame flat black). The scratches and nicks are small and the ebike looks way better after the quick fix. Purchased the same pen in white for my white Radrover and RadCity.

Happy that it helped.

Haibike paint is very durable yet I still need to touch up every now and then. So far the touched up nicks are holding up great and they are almost invisible. Pen is also very easy to use.

I'm already finding chips on my matte black ebike which I took out for the first time today. I noticed the paint crackled and chipped on the rack (which I haven't put anything on) and chips on the step through part of the frame, from my shoe rubbing I think.

I'm concerned that if I just apply touch up paint the original paint will just keep on flaking off. Is there some kind of protective paint I can use on the areas most prone to chipping? I don't care if it's matte or shiny, in fact I'm guessing shiny would be more durable.

I was digging on Amazon and found 3M tape sheets that people put on their cars to protect the paint, maybe this would be a good option? Here's an example.

Try paint protection film. Yes it will make matte paint shiny but it has very good protection properties.
