I didn’t know the cost savings of owning an ebike. I just found out that because ebikes have Speed, Cadence and Torque sensors all I need to participate in online training/racing/cycing is an indoor Bike Trainer Stand, which I bought for $75 at Costco. I also needed to buy a 12mm rear thru axle (cost me $25) because the Sportneer stand only came with a skewer. People without an ebike can easily spend $500-$1,000 on a smart trainer. Why not put that money towards a nice eBike, so you also have a real bike to take outdoors. For only a $100, ebike owners can make their ebikes compatible with indoor training tools like Zwift, Wahoo, ROUVY, TrainingPeaks and RGT, etc.
Am I missing something? Is spending $500-$1000 on a smart trainer stand more reasonable than putting that money towards a nice ebike?
