This is “normal”

I have a brand new HD750 and it has had a horrible rattle and grinding noise since day one. it is so bad my daughter told me she can hear it while riding 100 yards behind me.

at first I thought it was the bottom bracket, but I finally traced it down to the rear disc. The disc is bent, not just warped but bent. Look at the video I posted especially around the 0:10-0:1 second mark, the disc is grinding against the caliper.

sent this video to Bikonit support and they told me this is “normal”.

Luckily I had another 203mm disc I bought for another bike, I swapped the disc and guess what, the rattle and grinding noise is gone.

Normal my arse.

They are actually pretty easy to bend back into place. You can use a tool to do so or use "finger power" to bend them back to normal. It is actually surprising that something that can stop that kind of weight can be "bent" so easily. Glad you got her back in business!

Thats one of the more severe warps I have seen that isn't flat out creased with a sharp bend from something like a rock strike. 'normal' huh?

I personally don't bother to try and un-bend brake rotors. there are special tools meant for the task, but an adjustable crescent wrench tightened up to the rotor will do an as-good or better job. ... or 'as-bad' of a job as the case may be. the crescent wrench is a tool you already own so there's a plus.

Yeah, the "normal" response kind of gave me pause.

I have the tool and I also have a DTI for cars that can verify warping, works on a bike same as a motorcycle or car, and these discs were beyond normal. resting on a flat level surface one side was 3/4" higher, doesn't matter how much dicking around with the tool I did it didn't fix it. my guess is it got damaged in shipping. the front was just as bad. replaced both (on my dime) and haven't had an issue since.

also had my front forks fail and was told by Bikonit they don't carry replacements and I was on my own to find something, but if I send them the receipt they would reimburse me. still waiting for that to happen, took 7 weeks to get the replacements from China (I found Bikonit's suppler on Alibaba using the info on the forks). the replacements are working fine $350 and I doubt I will ever see the money.

all in all my experience with Bikonit has been less than stellar, I would not recommend them to anyone.

Sorry to hear about your experience but it is much appreciated that you shared it. I was considering a Bikonit bike but from Bolton. My guess is that Kyle would be much better to deal with.

all the bikonit bikes come through Bolton he is essentially their warehouse. I bought mine direct from bikonit to save a few hundred $$, sorry I did, I have had great service with Bolton, unfortunately his hands are tied with Bikonit support as well. I called Bolton about the forks and they can't get them either and Bikonit doesn't supply parts, even for warranty repair. you are basically on your own for repairs, as they do not stock ANY parts, only whole bikes.

I truly appreciate the info.
