A cyclist does have the right to take the lane, at least in California, and sometimes that is the safest thing for them to do on a narrow road where a car may try to pass them unsafely. I try to find alternate routes and not put myself in that situation. Sure, there are rude cyclists just like there are rude car drivers. The difference is that the car will kill the cyclists in a collision between the two and there will hardly be a scratch on the car. I ride very defensively, even when I think I have the right of way. Because there are many car drivers that do have an attitude will not give your life much importance compared to getting wherever they are going a few seconds earlier.

IME almost every cyclist is also a driver. Also IME whenever drivers are complaining about "entitled cyclists", they are almost always just whining that they had to slow down for 5 seconds 3 months ago and are still bitter about it.

As a resident of what you would probably consider "the coast", I've had very few issues over 10s of thousands of miles commuting and road riding over 20 years. You get entitled dickheads everywhere, in every group of people. In places with more people, you get more dickheads, because more people.

Don't see "lycra gangs" around here so not sure where they ride. As retired people, we ride during the day. I assume they are working during the day. Periodically see the high school team out on weekends, usually on county roads that have fairly low motor vehicle density. It appears these days there are more "off-road riders". My son and DIL are part of the coaching team for the league my hot-shot granddaughter competes in.

Me too... and I purposely avoid weekends as that's when they're out on the mups.
I'm on my daily +20 mile ride and I think I passed 2 on bikes, a dog walker and a young couple.
Retirement has its benefits... and that goes for shopping even more so.

By "buses" they mean a long distance coach.

With some exceptions, you have to pay to a specific operator in Poland. (The exception could be mutual honouring tickets between SKM and Mazovian Railways in the Warsaw Zone 1 and 2). However, whenever there's a need, an app can be created. Brands such as SkyCash, jakdojade or Koleo all have agreements with all the operators, and it also extends beyond just the public transportation/railways for SkyCash. You either top up your account in the app or use BLIK, which is a unique Polish system for instant payment from any bank. These apps also have timetables for any railway operator in Poland.

However, the specific operators have their own apps and websites as well. I prefer:
  • Checking the connections and cyclist seat availability for long haul in the Intercity website
  • Do the commute planning in jakdojade ("how do I get there")
  • Buy the local tickets in SkyCash
  • But buy the long haul tickets with Intercity. The latter ensures I will certainly get a seat/bike space and all applicable discounts.

It took Poland some time to get to that level.

In August 2023, I got to Gdańsk with an Intercity train. The next step was to get to Gdańsk Airport to collect @Brix. I hadn't done my research beforehand. As I knew it took a city bus ages to get to the airport, I took a taxi. It took ages and cost a lot. Only when I picked up my gf, I started reading the apps. Turned out, the railway operator was Polregio, offering a very fast and inexpensive connection back to Gdańsk but Gdańsk Wrzeszcz (a hub). The next step was just to get on Gdańsk SKM (the Fast Urban Train). All very fast and inexpensive. One always learns...

few if any roadies riding like d-bags on the west coast. the majority of the dangerous and entitled behavior comes from those in automobiles, as do just about all the killings of pedestrians or cyclists.

Then give over with this snide hatred of 'some' cyclists. So stupid. We all cycle two wheels no matter what type of bike. All get out into the open air. Why focus on negativity and dividing us up like this. Whats the feckin point? Get enough agro from ignorant drivers - and I am a driver as well, as most cyclists are.

Ooops, sorry to express an opinion on a forum. Would it be offensive to imply someone is a Snowflake? To be clear, I dislike Class 2 riders on MUP and any biker that thinks it's ok to block motor vehicles for relatively (undefined) long periods "because they have the right to."

Remember, if someone's opinions offend you, there is a method to disappear them.

Already on one. The only mention of biking is favorite places to ride.

No pent up aggression, recall I don't see issues with rider/driver interaction around here.
