The Queen passed away

I wonder how the current state of affairs figured into her passing.
Sending Boris packing and confirming Liz Truss as PM was her last major task.

She was a great lady - IMHO.
My wife served her a G&T many, many, years ago when she was visiting Canada.

Kind of reminded me of my grandmother, who died in 2009 at 98. Sharp as a tack til the very end. A moral leader that wasn't stuck in the past. I've never been a royal fanatic, but I respected the Queen and her steady hand. I expect the monarchy will never have the same gravitas as it had under Elizabeth II.

Dis Family needs to put someone on the throne.

"And remember, make them eat bugs. They should own nothing"

I think that even now in 2022 that we still have people that we refer to as King and Queen is quite disgusting. And the fact that her death has consumed the airwaves for the past 2 days and probably will continue to 'till she's fed to the worms is further reminder that most are sheep.
That said... she did do much for many.

The titles don't have the same meaning they once had and the title holders do not hold power over people. I can't get exercised over a title.

Given the media can get all consumed by the Kardashians for months and years, I'd rather hear about the life and times of Elizabeth II. Then again I cut the cable cord more than 2 years ago so I don't get forced fed pop culture.

I realize that... But they are still privileged at the expense of the common.
Some things (in my mind) belong in the past.
I cut the cord a few years ago myself but even PBS went on and on as if she was the second coming of and passing of christ. And being better than a Kardashian is a pretty low bar.

That's what we said about my bum brother when he finally got a job at 34 (Cardiologist); compared to his 3 stellar brothers that were employed at 22 (Engineers).
I was 35 when I took my first full-time year-round job. No apologies. If I hadn't I would have missed the incredibly full life I'd lived. I watched my uncles die and "wished I had...". We do stuff backward. We wait till our bodies are declining to finally step back take a deep breath and enjoy.

But we're DINKS. Double Income No KidS

Bigger balls than most of our self-aggrandizing politicians practicing "kingsmanship".
Her speech on her 21st birthday was humble and all about service. Can you imagine any young person today making such a selfless speech?

It's not the bar I set, it was set by our media. Shocking where we are.

PBS has a huge anglophile audience, masterpiece theater is in cooperation with British media. They are giving their audience what they want.

I understand your objections and I don't guess this is consuming you. Elizabeth II is an historic figure that did so much good for her country. She really softened the blow of the demise of an empire. Imagine being British and having to watch the "coronation" and death of JFK. British TV has had to watch American movers and shakers come and go, rise and fall since WWII. I'm okay with with coverage of an historic figure. Royal marriages and babies? I could go on an anti rant with all that!

We were able to do virtually anything we wanted in our younger days, but would have been tough without $ earned working. Wasn't born with silver spoon in mouth; actually not true, parents had silver table ware.

Satisfied with the work and play style we lived with, but that is the paradigm I was born into.

A little off topic, but I love history and have enjoyed the 1st two installments of "The Boelyns, A Scandalous Family" on PBS. It comes on Sunday nights at 9pm PST. God save the King :)
