Fellow Riders of the Dash (and other iZippers),

May is the annual kickoff of the National Bike Challenge. The Challenge's motto is: "Ride. Record. Celebrate." The goal of the challenge is to encourage use of the bicycle in daily life and to gather information about the health, economic and environmental benefits of bicycling. People for Bikes is one of the sponsoring organization so you know the information gathered will be put for good use in advocating for bicyclists. Oh, and then there's that thing about trying to beating the other rider's a--!

An EBR community member got the great idea of starting a team for ebike riders and created Team EBR. They posted the invitation to join on the 'Events' page, but I thought i would help that great effort by posting here. To sign up you just go to the Challenge homepage, create an account and join Team EBR. You can record your miles using an app like Endomondo or Strava or you can log your miles manually. Either way it is great fun, great encouragement to ride, and a great way to gain perspective on your community of fellow cyclists.

Hope to see you there!

Bud

I signed up... I wish I could use Strava for this but I log all my e-bike rides as "canoeing" to avoid cheating on the leader-boards.

Easy fix for that: sign up for a 2nd Strava account (a free one) and use that 2nd account only for this particular bike challenge. Then when you go to ride, make sure you are logged in to the 2nd Strava account and it will sync with your account on the National Bike Challenge.

I would rather not have my ebike times posted under any account name as it seems unfair to people that care about those times to beat them all by cheating. I also know people that simply refuse to use Strava because of the leaderboards. I wish they'd let you opt out of them. Oh well, manually entering miles is OK.
