I am looking for a fat tire folding ebike for my 300lb husband. Any suggestions would be helpful. Hoping to spend around $1,500.

I don't think you'll find a folding bike that's either rated or safe for that weight. If he's tall as well, most folding bikes can feel a little cramped. The weak point is the hinge and clamp. The frames are made of decent size tubing, but the hinge is welded on and the hinge pin is just too small for heavier riders. I'm sure some take the chance, it's not advisable though.

This is an example of a broken frame, and I don't think it was weight related.

For your budget I would look at Rad Power Bikes. Well known company, robust bikes and many happy customers.

Best of luck!

I'm pretty sure that 275 number has some safety built into it (I'll bet 50%). More than anything though, if you have an issue with a bike that's clearly been abused, they're saying don't bother calling them for warranty coverage.....

A solidly designed and constructed diamond type frame structure (not a step through, folding very questionable) shouldn't have any issues at well over 300lbs. It's the stupid stuff that will kick your butt then. Like over extended seat posts made from thin wall tubing for instance. They're an accident looking for a place to happen. Or mickey mouse 10 dollar handle bars. Cheap pedals...

Then there's the spoke issue.

At 315 lbs, 4 years and counting on our 275 lb rated Rad City. Not one single weight related issue. -Al

That's going to be tough, especially for a folding ebike. The highest ratings I've seen are 285lbs. You'll need to research carefully.

I agree that a folding bike designed for this load is a tough requirement. You might consider a cargo style ebike.
The RadWagon is rated for a 375lb load. It is a bit over your budget at $1,699, but is in stock. I'm sure there's more info on this bike in reviews and other threads that you could find with the Search function.
