ST2 will not release the keys

My ST2 refuses to release the key. I tyry to close the battery door and keep it in the closed position but the key will not rotate nor get released. I have had my ST2 for a few weeks and both times I have removed the battery I have had this issue. The first time I kept jiggling, tapping and reclosing the door until eventually it worked. Now I am stuck again. Any ideas on getting this fixed? Help appreciated as I bought this bike in MA and brought it to the Dominican Republic where there is no dealer. TIA
