I always thought that Spokane would be my top choice for city living, but I grew up in a similar climate in the same state. Unfortunately, Spokane has been discovered and the housing market has been pretty ferocious. The newspaper said that Californians are retiring, selling their Cali houses and buying a house to live in and a house to rent out with that money. Spokane isn't as spendy as the Puget Sound area, yet.

Yes. The Methow was called, The Siberia of Washington. Don't know if it still is. Dec. 1968, -40 at the Fish Hatchery there before the thermometer broke, so it is suspected that it was even colder. Where I lived at that time, it was merely -24 for the low, I think. I just remember playing outside till our feet went numb, which was usual winter procedure, they went numb a bit faster at that cold of a temperature. We had a great home made ski jump that winter.
