I have a Bikespeed Rs on a Bosch CX equipped ebike. I have been reading about various rumors regarding dongle detection and possible bricking of bikes if a dongle is detected. I wrote to Bikespeed to inquire as to what the status is. Their answer pertains to my bikes which are 2019 or earlier. I am not sure what the status is for 2020 bikes.

"thank you for your message. We are glad you like our bikespeed-RS. There is no detection of bikespeed-RS for motors up to year 2019. If you have a motor from the 4. generation (year 2020), there may be a detection, if your firmware in the bikespeed-RS is too old. In your case this is for both bikespeed-RS. But as long as you are using them on motors up to year 2019 there is no problem.

For future updates you easily can have a look on our website. All compatible software-versions are listed there."

Beware the manufacturers are taking covert action to ensure their products comply and remain compliant with local regulations in some countries
A mate had a dongle on his 2018 Shimano E8000 which he removed prior to an upcoming service 😇
When he took it in for a service last week, the LBS “as a courtesy”, without telling him beforehand, updated the firmware.
Now he can’t use the dongle without throwing a W011 error and shutting the motor off.
He can’t complain, as it would void his warranty if he admitted to using a dongle🤬

I just ordered a BikeSpeed RS for my 2019 Giant Explore E+1 GTS. I'm fed up with running into the 32kph limit and I find I'm often exceeding it with a lot of pedaling effort.
