Can you unlock the speed to be like 20 mph (around 35 km/h) or this bike , assuming a model sold on the EU market in 2019?

not sure the seller says he lost the display so he sent me a link to buy another one for around 90euros, its an official link to a genuine specialized product. So it is a model with a removable display, the display he linked me is called TCD. As long as he does not provide me with an invoice i will not loose time to go and try it. He told me that the bike can be operated without the display and that the bike can be served at a local shop that belong to the specialized network. Apparently he bougth the bike on line but it was delivered in that shop.

He also says that he almost never use it (this is frequent since switching to ebike require dediation especially in my place which has been historically very hostile to bikes -- which i was in Netherland, Oregon or BColumbia --). But i would like to check the bike status with the specialized application ( i cannot remember the name). I guess that you need either a phone or a PC with bluetooth.

It all looks complicated to me; we should try to identify your Como's configuration first. Are the display cables connected to the display socket? If yes, that would be the older BLOKS display. When my 2017 Vado 5.0 had the BLOKS, I could remove the display from the socket. When the BLOKS was replaced with the TCD-w per warranty later, it turned out the new type of display was permanently wired to the e-bike. So my bets are your Como is a BLOKS e-bike (2017-2019 was a hard time for Specialized that produced a big number of BLOKS e-bikes and then the BLOKS company bankrupted). In the older Vado/Como you could remove the display on a 25 km/h e-bike.

Yes, you could try connecting to your Como with the Mission Control app. However, a BLOKS e-bike won't connect.

In such a case, the only way to derestrict your Como would be installing the mechanical derestrictor called Planet 3.
Planet 3.
You can write to @Alex @ PLANET3.bike either in this Forum (a private message) or from his Website to find out if you can use the Planet 3 on your Como. Alex is in Croatia and is known to be a very helpful person.

The seller got the invoice, it is a Specialized Turbo Como 4.0 2019 model.
The exact name of the head unit is :

Specialized Turbo Connect TCD Head Unit

I can't speak to whether or not the bike will work without the TCD being connected, but I know for a fact it won't work if it still has the BLOKS display. The BLOKS display unit is easily removable and that, coupled with its small size, makes it easy to lose or misplace, and that may be what happened with this bike. If it is a BLOKS bike then it will not turn on without the BLOKS display unit attached. I also do not know when Specialized made the change from the BLOKS display to the TCD display, so it is likely that some 2019s came from Specialized with the TCD, but many 2019s definitely came with the BLOKS display, including mine, which has a very early build date.

That's the point. 2019 was a very much confusing year.
The OP wrote the seller told him the display was the $90 TCD. Not right. The TCD is a wireless display intended for many Specialized e-bikes but not for Comos and Vados, which come with the TCD-w (wired) display. The latter is irremovable, or you would need to cut wires.

Not necessarily. In the beginning of my presence in the EBR Forum, we had a Swedish user here who claimed the 25 km/h Vado/Como could be used without the BLOKS. However, the 45 km/h or 28 mph Vado/Como required the BLOKS present.

That's why I said I need more information/pictures from Yayabike. If that's a BLOKS Como, no chance to connect Mission Control or derestrict the e-bike electronically (mechanical derestriction ist still possible with Planet.3).

I will se the bike soon and take some pictures, he may have lost the BLOCK but specialized shop proposed him to buy a TCD as replacement, so since the bike is from 2019 i assume it is compatible with both screen/interfaces.

i assume it is compatible with both screen/interfaces.
Not really. A BLOKS e-bike was never compatible with TCD. And the wireless TCD has never been compatible with TCD-w e-bikes.
Bear in mind that:
  • My Vado 5.0 originally was a BLOKS e-bike
  • It was converted to TCD-w by Specialized in 2020 (wired display)
  • I also own a Vado SL, which is compatible with the wireless TCD, and actually needs no display.
If you want to test the compatibility, just try to connect to your Como with Mission Control (smartphone with Bluetooth). If it connects, you will need a PIN, which is normally displayed on the TCD-w. If it won't even recognize your Como, it is a BLOKS e-bike.

Note: You can register your Como at www.specialized.com (give the number that starts with WBSC, and which is printed somewhere on the frame). If you can register the Como, it will give you some additional details.
