Softer Tires for Pace 500

I have enjoyed over 1500 miles riding on my Pace 500 and I am starting to think about a new set of tires. I had one minor accident when I was riding early in the morning on roads that were mostly dry, but still had some slick spots. While turning across a road with a sloped crown, the front tire slide out from under me and I went down on my left side. My mirror and peddle took the brunt of the fall, but my knee and elbow were also scraped up a bit. With that in mind, I am looking for a softer compound tire to provide some additional stickiness in the same size or slightly thinner than the OEM tires.

Any thoughts or recommendations on replacement tires would be appreciated.

I found a different Kenda tire called Kwick Drumlin in various sizes. They have a lot more grip, speed and durability than the Kwick Seven.5s that come on our bikes.

Kwick Drumlin

Has anyone tried them on a Pace 500 or Pace 350?

Since no one seems to have a need for softer compound tires on this forum, I ordered a set of Kwick Drumlins in 27.5x2.20 from the Kenda online store to try them out. They were less expensive than the Seven.5s and rated higher in Speed, Grip, Protection and Durability. (4 out of 4 categories) Once I have had a chance to put a few miles on them, I will report back with my results.

I also went down when I first got my bike in some light rain on a corner and it scared me pretty good. i was probably going a little fast for the conditions so learned my lesson. I now take corners pretty slow even when it’s not wet out. I did put tannus armour liners in which made the ride feel softer and seems to corner a little softer too but not certain. I will definitely be looking at different tires in the future and wouldn’t mind something a little thinner and faster since I almost only commute about 10 miles one way and speed with no flats is my most important criteria. Let us know how you like these tires?
