RX Connect in the US?

Hi! Just joined the forum; thank you all for your helpful posts here.

Is there any indication for when R&M’s RX Connect system might become available in the US? It looks like they’re expanding the number of models that can be equipped, but only in Europe so far—I can’t find any mention of it in on the US site or through local dealers.

I live in San Francisco, and risk of theft is by far my biggest reservation about investing in an e-bike. A bike is much less versatile and useful if you always worry it’ll get stolen, and a Stromer-style integrated anti-theft system would be a no-brainer upgrade for me.

The RX connect will roll out to more areas next year and we might see it in the US in coming years, but it’s a big challenge working with US regulations and inconsistencies in cell networks throughout the US. Believe me they are working hard on this though.

Thanks! Hopefully they’re aware of how valuable this would be in US cities; if they introduced the system here I’d buy an R&M in a heartbeat. In the meantime it seems like a concern that would keep me from enjoying the bike to the fullest.

Great feedback for sure. Most of our customers get good locks and insurance. The RX isn’t offering too much more in the security department, frankly the whole GPS tracking thing in the US is really tricky due to the way the laws work here.

From our experience most law enforcement are not willing to use these tools unless you physically have eyes on the bike and I wouldn’t want to recommend someone to go track down a stolen bike. I don’t know if the risk is worth the reward, I was in Iraq and I’ve been through some pretty crazy stuff, but I’d rather not risk my life over a bike these days.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the information on insurance availability for ebikes. Can you please provide some leads to where to look for?
Thanks

Sure, I recommend Velosurance. Some homeowners might add your ebike, but most have an exclusion for anything with a motor. Most people don’t know that and if you’re unsure get it in writing. I wouldn’t trust what someone says over the phone.

I believe State Farm also has a bike specific policy, but most have been happy with Velosurance.
